Obituary for Leona Campbell

After a brief hospital stay, Leona passed away peacefully, Monday, August 6, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 96 years.
Leona is survived by 6 of her 7 children: Margo (Mike) James, Glenda Streifel, Peter Campbell, Louise (George) Chernetz, Bruce (Linda) Campbell and Roy (Mary) Campbell; daughter-in-law Dianne Campbell; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild—all very beloved.
Leona was predeceased by her husband Glen Campbell; mother Marguerite Roziere; son Donald Campbell; granddaughter Sandy Streifel; son-in-law Pidy Streifel; daughter-in-law Carol Campbell.
Leona was born Saturday, October 16, 1915 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
Leona had a full life nurturing family, working as a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony’s Hospital, and serving as a volunteer in the Hospital Auxiliary with her long-time friend Gwladys Carley. She enjoyed her later years travelling, reading, gardening, doing puzzles and sharing activities with friends in the Golden Agers and at Valhalla. She was a long-time member of Christ Church.
In keeping with Leona’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate her life was held Friday, August 10, 2012, 2:00 pm, at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Rebecca Graham presiding. Music ministry was provided by Isabel Halcrow and the Christ Church Choir. Urn bearer was Dianne Campbell. Ushers were Cole Campbell and Cheryl Campbell. Thanksgiving of life was delivered by granddaughter Kara DeGraeve and a poem was read by granddaughter Jennifer Parks. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Leona’s daughters Margo James, Glenda Streifel and Louise Chemetz. Prayers of the people was delivered by grandson Ward Streifel.
Immediately following the service, everyone attended a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall Club Room.
A private family interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Church Anglican, Box 125, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K3 or a charity of your choice.
