Douglas Hubert Lathlin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one Douglas Hubert Lathlin, known to many as "Hound Dog". He passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, surrounded by family and friends at the Rod McGillivary Memorial Care Home, Opaskwayak, Manitoba.
Douglas Hubert Lathlin was born Sunday, July 7, 1946, in Moose Lake, Manitoba. Shortly after birth, he was adopted and moved to Opaskwayak, Manitoba.
Douglas attended school at The Pas Indian Day School and the Red Brick School.
Douglas was orphaned in his teens and times were hard. He was forced to quit school and start earning a living. He worked for CNR in the Extra Gang division. Later in his adult life, he worked at the Otineka Mall as their custodian. He stayed with this organization for over 16 years.
After leaving his job, he enjoyed his hard earned retirement, living at the Rupert House until he became ill and had to move into the Rod McGillivary Care Home where he stayed until his passing.
Douglas' hobbies included cribbage card playing; going to bingos; playing the slots at the VLT Centre and visiting with his relatives and friends.
Douglas was a very loving, compassionate person. Everyone who was close to him knows the depth of his love from the way he respected and interacted with people. His legacy was the importance of family closeness. He stayed connected to all his grandchildren, chapans and great chapans by making them believe that he or she was his favorite or the most special.
Douglas was predeceased by relatives and friends from the late Jerry and Isabella (Bignell) Lathlin; the late Jeremiah and Jean (Chubb) Buck; the late Kiplan and Bella (Buck) Cowley; the late Albert and Mary (Buck) Cowley; and the late Jeremiah and Irene (Head) Cowley; Douglas was also predeceased by, not only the above listed parents and relatives, but also his brothers Robert Buck, Zacc Buck; sisters Rosemary Stove and Irene Nasecapow.
From such a large extended family, he leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, brother, nieces and nephews, and many relatives too numerous to name.
