Ivan Keith Myers was born Saturday, October 9, 1937, in The Pas, Manitoba to Lorne and Irene Myers.
Ivan worked at many jobs throughout his years, including logging, cattle farming and maintenance but he especially enjoyed driving the school bus for Cormorant Lake School for 21 years. Uncle Ivan would do his regular patrols around the community. He always volunteered to help others. Uncle Ivan also worked for Northern Affairs for many years.
Uncle Ivan was such a great cook. He was known for his famous homemade cooking. He cherished his antiques and loved to collect spoons. His house looked like a museum. Ivan took a lot of pride in his house and yard. One of his favorite past times was maintaining his garden.
Ivan loved the Toronto Maple Leafs and if they lost he would fire them. He also enjoyed the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Uncle loved his crib challenges from his Moose Lake friends and wouldn’t tolerate any cheating. He really enjoyed his trips to the casino, as he went in happy and walked out grumpy. He swore the machines were rigged. In Ivan’s younger years women would line up for a dance with him.
Ivan really enjoyed his time with his very good friends, John and Donna Brightnose. We are sure they are having coffee and catching up. We are sure Uncle Ivan and Johnny are trying to get under Donna’s skin.
Uncle Ivan was never blessed with any children of his own but he loved all the kids, especially his nieces, which he had a special place in his heart for them. One of Ivan’s proudest moments was when his little brother “Cooker” graduated with the RCMP. This was proof to him that all his work wasn’t in vain.
Ivan was the most generous man in the world and he survived traumatic experiences throughout his life but was always able to live life with a kind heart.
Ivan passed away peacefully with his nieces Amanda and Shannon Myers by his side, in the early morning of Thursday, May 23, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 81 years.
Ivan is survived by his brother Ken (Dora) Myers; sister Rita Porsnuk; brother Kenneth (Geraldine) Myers; Godchildren Wendy Brightnose-Flett and Donovan Myers; nieces, nephews and many family members too numerous to mention.
Ivan was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Irene Myers; brother Neil Myers; sister Ruth Kelbough; uncle Ray Myers; nephews Will Porsnuk, Donald Myers; and best friends John and Donna Brightnose. If we missed anyone it was not intentional and we sincerely apologize.
