Allen was born on August 15, 1944 at St. Anthony's Hospital in The Pas, MB to Mary and Arthur Ducharme.  He attended school in Rivers, MB where his father was stationed with the Army.  He then moved back to The Pas and started various jobs rather than continuing his education.  However, he later went to Keewatin Community College and took a motor mechanics course.

Allen owned and drove his own taxi for many years and then drove his own semi with Allied Van Lines for a number of years all over western Canada.  He then decided to start his own carpet cleaning and painting business which eventually morphed into furniture moving and apartment block maintenance and lasted until January 2026.  At one time he had keys to practically every apartment in The Pas.  In 1997 Allen bought an apartment block of his own and sold it in 2025.

Allen and Debbie came together in 2000 and married in 2013.  Together they started their storage business and bought property together.

Al loved his work and didn't like leaving town for more than a couple of days at a time and he definitely did not like the city.  Brandon was not so bad because his son Christopher lived there but still, only for a couple of days.

Almost everyone in town knew Al and his van and he always had a dog sitting beside him, the last one being Sheba.

Allen passed away on June 29, 2026 at the age of 81 after a brief illness at St. Anthony's Hospital in The Pas, MB

He is survived by his loving wife Debbie, children Allen (Tracy), Lisa, Duane, Debbie and Christopher (Kate), step-children Ashley (Phillip) and Jarrett, brothers Neil, Doug and Richard and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Allen was predeceased by his parents Mary and Arthur, grandmother Amy Hall, brother Murray and sister Marilyn.
