For a musher’s journey never truly ends, it carries on with his four-legged friends.

Great Creator, as my final journey comes into view, I ask not for riches, nor glory or fame, Only that my dogs remember my name.

I’ve travelled the trails through ice and snow, Through northern winds where few would go. I’ve watched the stars on the coldest nights, And found my peace beneath the northern lights.

My hands are tired, my body is weak, But there’s one last trail my soul must seek. I hear the runners upon the snow, And the voices of old friends calling me home.

To every dog who ran by my side, Who gave me their heart, their strength, their pride, Know that you were never just a team to me, You were my family, my heart, my destiny.

And when it’s time for me to go, Let my last journey be across the snow. With a faithful lead dog to show me the way, Toward the light of an everlasting day.

Let the northern winds whisper my name, And the wilderness remember that I came. Let my sled glide gently, my spirit free, With the dogs I’ve loved running ahead of me.

And when I reach that final bend, May every dog I’ve lost be there again. Their tails held high, their eyes shining bright, Waiting to guide me into the light.

Great Creator, when my time is through, There is only one thing I ask of You: Don’t let me walk through Heaven’s door, Let me drive my dogs just once more.

And when my final command is said, Let the stars light the trail ahead. With one last whisper beneath the sky, I’ll call out “Haw! Gee! Hike!” and fly.

For a musher’s journey never truly ends, It carries on with his four-legged friends. And somewhere beyond the northern glow, A beloved musher and his dogs are finally going home.
