It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, partner, grandmother, auntie and friend – Gwendolyn Martin- Uskihk Ahkoop – Earth Blanket Woman.  Gwen passed away on July 26, 2026, in Winnipeg due to diabetes complications.

Gwen was born in Winnipeg, the second youngest of six siblings to John & Joyce Martin.  She grew up in Moose Lake where she made many childhood friends whom she kept to this day.  She attended KCC to obtain her ECE certificate and was employed at a daycare in The Pas.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She reminisced about the past in which she thought of ways on how to keep the traditional ways going.  She loved attending many ceremonies.  She would go on her daily  walks in which she enjoyed doing.

Gwendolyn leaves to mourn her partner Arthur, sons-Kevin & Troy (Precious), sisters Brenda, Marcia (Eddie) Grandkids-Markel, Miranda, Emberly, Doreen, Arthur, Ryder, Nicolas & Seven.  Her aunties Brenda, Dora (Edward) nieces Angela, Sheena, Taryn & Breanne, nephews-Harvey, Todd, Joshua, Thomas & Ozzy.

Gwendolyn is predeceased by her parents John & Joyce Martin, siblings Cheryl, Leonard, Karen Ann, Grandparents Flora & John Martin, Thomas & Elsie Letandre, Nephews Trevor & Preston Martin & many aunties, uncles, cousins to numerous to mention.  If we forgot anyone it was not intentional.

We would like to give special thanks to Mosakahiken Chief & Council, staff at HSC, Swampy Cree Receiving Home for all the help and support you have given.
