Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the loss of our husband, father, grandfather and friend, Jack Halcrow. At the age of 85, with his family at his bedside, he passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022.

John Alexander Halcrow was born on Tuesday, September 7, 1937 in Churchill, Manitoba. John was raised in The Pas by his parents, Laura and Horace Halcrow and spent all of his life there. Jack had many lifelong friends that he loved spending time with - Kent Morgan, Gary Morrish, Ted Smith, Larry Steinke, Skip Mitchell, Harold Ginter, Dave Thorne and countless other friends, too numerous to mention.

Jack met Isobel Radcliffe when she moved to The Pas to teach school and they married July 16, 1960, in the Waskada United Church. Jack and Isobel have four children: Lori (Grant), Harley (Tami), Jacqueline (Brian) and Suzanne (Jay). Jack dearly loved his grandchildren; Paige (Colton), Gaelen (Sage), Liam (Somya), Aiden (Rachel) and Rowan.

Throughout his life, Jack was passionate about Masons, travel, Christ Church, his faith and spending time at the Clearwater Lake with his family. Jack loved to drive - especially to Texas where he and Isobel spent many winters.

He established many friendships through Canada and the USA.

Jack worked for CNR/VIA Rail from 1957 to 1995. He served trains in The Pas that were heading north. A highlight was servicing Queen Elizabeth's train in 1970 when she toured northern Manitoba. He made many friends throughout his career. Jack was an active representative of The Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America.

Jack touched many lives with his kind caring soul. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Anglican Church vestry, Masonic activities and neighborly acts of kindness. He was a Boy Scout growing up and assistant leader later.

Jack especially appreciated the kindness and support of The Pas Masonic Lodge, the Anglican Church, Primary Care Home Care nurses, and his faithful coffee friends.

Jack loved to laugh, sneak sweet treats, build and repair countless projects, read maps and Westerns, and share his peanut butter toast with all the dogs in the family.

Jack will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In keeping with Jack's wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate his life was held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, 1:00 pm at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, Manitoba, with Rev. Jann Brooks presiding. Music ministry was provided by Andrew Legeny.  Eulogy was delivered by Bev McTavish.

A reception was held at the Christ Church Parish Hall, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Christ Church Anglican Memorial Fund, Box 125, The Pas, Manitoba  R9A 1K3, would be appreciated by Jack's family.
