Obituary

Peacefully, as the sun was still bright but setting for the day, Nana Rosie gently made her way to the clouds.  She will forever be remembered with love and laughter by her daughter Andrea, her favourite son-in-law, Andrew, and the absolute joys of her life, her grandchildren, Ross, Jane, and William.

Mum was born on February 11, 1946 to Bill and Jessie Pyne and big brother Iain in Chatham, Kent, England.  In August of that year, Jessie, Iain and baby Rosie boarded The Queen Mary and set off to Canada to meet up with Bill and begin their life in Canada.  After docking at the famous Pier 1, they made the rest of their journey by train, settling in Winnipeg.  Mum's little brother, Robert, was born not long after to complete the family.

Mum had a variety of jobs over the course of her life where she made lifelong friends.  Some of these included Sunshine Uniform Supply, Welders Supplies, the Assiniboine Clinic, and the Unicity Sobey's Café.  Volunteer work was also vitally important to mum. She gave back to her community whenever and however she could.  She was a Girl Guide leader, a Club RED volunteer at Buchanan Elementary, and a member of the Westboine Park Housing Co-op Board of Directors, Playground Committee, and Ways and Means Committee.

But her heart and soul was being a member of St. Charles-Headingley United Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and helped the amalgamation of the two congregations when St Charles closed.  She also loved breakfasts after church with the crew and scheduled lunch dates with Donna, Betty, and GMa Pat following doctor's appointments.

In 2019, Nana Rosie moved to The Pas to be closer to her family when she required dialysis.  Being able to see, read, have sleepovers, play games, laugh ("you're a sausage!"), and cuddle with her grandchildren whenever she wanted was the best way to end her days.  And funnily enough, now she always had money for McDonalds…

Despite Rosie's health issues she had so much support from those around her.  Her friends Carol and Donna, who got her back and forth to appointments, and her amazing team of Home Care nurses (Chrissy and Zah) in Charleswood and in The Pas when she would come to visit.  Thank you so much!

Nana Rosie had the best care from Angie and the most amazing team of nurses and dialysis unit assistants at The Pas Health Complex.  Thank you so much for compassion and care for every single patient you help every day; your work is so important and the devotion to your patients and their families is so evident. Thank you.

Getting her back and forth to dialysis could not have been done without the incomparable Dean Zorn and The Pas Handi Van. We are so grateful for your service and care over the last 3.5 years and appreciate every pick up and every stop.  Thank you.

We'd also like to send out appreciation to Leah and Dr. Carpenter for their care of Mum this past week.  For their honesty, their compassion, and their wisdom that helped us to help Mum in the best way possible and what she wanted.  Thank you.

Finally, so much love and appreciation to Claudia, Neil, and Leslie for their assistance so that we're "good to go".  Thank you.

A memorial service will be held at St Charles-Headingly United Church in late spring, early summer.  Details will be provided at a later date.

As much as Nana Rosie liked flowers, we believe that she would prefer you to use that energy and resource into something that would benefit others.  Donations would be gratefully appreciated to The Pas Health Complex Foundation, PO Box 541 The Pas, Mb. R9A 1K6 and designated to The Pas Dialysis Unit and The Pas Handi-Van, PO Box 3028 The Pas, Mb. R9A 1R7.

Memorial Service Sunday, July 2, 2023    1:00 pm St. Charles-Headingley United Church, 110 Bridge Road, Headingley United Church.
