Russ "Dobber" Dobson Obituary

Russ Willard Dobson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63 on August 2, 2021 in Flin Flon, MB.

Russ was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the fourth child of Lionel and Lois Dobson. He spent his childhood growing up in the St. James area of Winnipeg, spending many summers at the lake in Killarney with his grandparents.

Russ moved to Flin Flon in 1976 to join his bother Doug. He attended Hapnot Collegiate where he met Barb. They lived in Flin Flon, Winnipeg and Rankin Inlet. Russ and Barb were married Aug. 23, 1980.

Over his years Russ wore many hats. He was a bar tender, automotive mechanic by trade, heavy duty mechanic by trade, and owner-operator of his own truck driving for Kleysen and Gardewine. He was a jack of all trades, doing electrical, plumbing, carpentry as well as his own vehicle mechanic work. He was always willing to lend a hand to his many friends. At the time of his passing he was employed as a mill mechanic for HudBay in Snow Lake.

Russ and Barb have their home in Flin Flon. They acquired a cabin on the island at Big Island Lake where Russ spent many happy hours for 37 years getting the cabin and property to the beautiful state it is today.

Russ had a real jest for life. Russ and Barb have travelled extensively over the years, following world curling events and Briers. Their travels took them across Canada, to Europe and Asia. Their passion for scuba diving took them to Cozumel, Mexico where they returned for over 30 years. They developed very close friendships with their "Cozumel Family".

Russ is predeceased by his parents Lionel and Lois Dobson, his brothers Glenn and Ron and by fur-babies Watson, Benson and Panda.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Barb, and fur-baby Nanny; his brother Doug (Marian) Dobson, his sister Barb Harris and his Aunt Dorothy Pratt; his brother's-in-law, Ted (Sue) Nelson, Laurie (Yen) Nelson, Patrick (Vicki) Nelson, sister-in-law Diane Nelson,and Auntie Donnie (George) Hawes; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Also sadly missed by special friends Zippy and Inuk.

Celebration of Life for Russ will be held at Westwood Lodge on Big Island Lake near Flin Flon on Aug. 21, 2021 starting at 2:00pm.
