Obituary

This is with great sadness to announce the loss of our Whitecloud John Whitehead on August 16, 2026.

Whitecloud was born on June 20, 1975, at St. Anthony's Hospital, to the late Lawrence (Crow) Whitehead and Agnes (Highway) Lathlin. Whitecloud grew up at Opaskwayak Cree Nation most of his life. He was close to his blind "Ki Moo Soom" and led him by cane wherever he needed to go.

Whitecloud lived in Flin Flon with his mom at 5 years old and moved with his mom to Winnipeg when he was 7 years of age. He also resided in Regina, Sask., for a couple of years as a child. He moved back home with his mom when he was 10 years old. When he got home, he was a mischievous child and had a friend living across the street, with whom he went on an adventure to IGA (Otineka Mall) to help themselves with candy. After they were caught, the manager would call the cops and the cops drove them home! This occurred a couple of times, and yes, they got heck from the parents.

He enjoyed eating wild foods at the late George Bignell's home and had dinners with him. He also went trapping with George and learned his land-based culture during these times. Although he was Peter's friend, he always talked about George the most.

In his teenage years, Whitecloud enjoyed hanging out with his friends to play and listen to music. They would also enter air band contests and won while role-playing to a Guns N' Roses song. His favorite song was "Sweet Child of Mine." He got very close to his best friend, the late Julie Constant, and after her passing, he took it very hard. He was also very close to his brother Lincoln.

Whitecloud was a single man with no children, but he loved his pets dearly. He was very attached to Agess. He was a generous man who would give you his last cent. With his humble personality, he never bothered anyone and appreciated what he received.

He was always a kind, humble man, and as he was growing up, he loved his music. He always asked his brother Clint to burn a CD or USB for his music. He would also give his sister Benita heck to be better in life.

His personality was of a philosophical mind. He would talk about what life's meanings were to him. He would talk about picking up his social assistance to go buy food for his pets. He was always worried about his pets, and he would leave the T.V. on for them when he had to leave. When he got back home, his pets would still be watching T.V. His cat would still be watching cat cartoons when he got home.

Whitecloud is survived by our mother, Agnes (Charlie) Lathlin; siblings, Wilma (Gary) Cook, Clinton (Pam) Whitehead, Starla Whitehead, Rhonda (Lorenzo) McKenzie, Lincoln (Stephanie) Whitehead, Leonard (April) Whitehead, Benita Lathlin, Jan Anna Lathlin, Crowchild, April Dawn, Janelle, and Wendell; Auntie Priscilla Constant and Darlene Highway; Uncle Fred Constant; the Whitehead family; the Highway family; special friend Patricia Youd. and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Predeceased by our dad, Lawrence Whitehead; Auntie Wilma Strongeagle; Elizabeth Young; Peter Whitehead; John and Anna Ross; Walter (McGillivary) Ross; niece Erin Cook; and nephew Evan Whitehead.
