Annette Brightnose Obituary

Annette Virginia Brightnose (Nabess) was born on March 20, 1964 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents John and Rose Nabess.  She was the youngest of twenty-two siblings and by the time she came along most of her sisters had already left the nest, leaving Ann to be raised and spoiled by mostly brothers. In Annette's early years, her time was spent with her parents, some brothers and sisters at the trapline at Dolomite Lake where they'd spend a month in the spring time and travelled home by canoe at break-up when the ice left.

Later into her teen years Annette met the love of her life, Edward, who also happened to be her neighbour in Cormorant, Manitoba.  They courted each other for a while and a deal was made late one night between Annette's dad and Edward.  The very next day, her dad went to collect his very first skidoo and the deal was sealed—Edward had Annette from then on.

Ed and Ann started their family with the first of their sons, Norman, born in 1979. Steven came along in 1985, Jonathan in 1993 and they completed their family with Kenneth in 1995.  Annette loved being a mother and took great pride in all her boys.  She worked hard every day to give them a great life full of love and adventure.

Outside the home, Annette had various jobs such as a cook in many different places; an employee at NFDC where she harvested medicines from the land; worked at Little Dreamers Daycare; and for many years she worked for Child and Family Services.  Her greatest passion and calling was taking care of her family. Ann was well known for the welcoming environment in her home and the huge meals she put out for every special occasion. Nobody ever left hungry or empty handed, and her pie table was often as big as the meal's.

Over time, Annette's table grew and she became a "mama", "grandma", and "granny" to Rhianna, Paul, Abby-Mae, Kayden, Lenny-James, Jonni-Emily, Shannon, Simon, Martin, Elianna and Willow.  Being a grandparent brought Annette so much joy and happiness.  When she wasn't with her grandbabies, she was watching videos of them, talking to them on the phone or over Facetime and waiting for the next visit.

On May 18, 2024—exactly 900 days from the day he left—Edward came to call Ma home.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Annette is survived by her four sons Norman, Steven (Brittany), Jonathan (Shalene) and Kenneth Brightnose; her grandchildren Rhianna, Paul, Abby-Mae, Kayden, Lenny-James, Jonni-Emily, Shannon, Simon, Martin, Ellie and Willow; her brother George Nabess; and numerous other family members and friends.

Annette is predeceased by her husband Edward Brightnose; her parents John and Rose Nabess; her brothers Bruce Nabess, Arthur Nabess, Phillip Nabess, Gabe Brent Bowman, Joe Nabess, Peter Nabess, Don Nabess, Roger Nabess, Mark Nabess, Wayne Nabess, Raymond Nabess, and Simon Nabess; her sisters Rolande Azure, Liz Wright, Mabel Ryan, Barb Nabess, Darlene Nabess, Carol Nabess and Diane Sutherland; and numerous other family members and friends.
