Barbara Lynne (Ready) Atchison

               Barbara Lynne Atchison (nee Ready), age 69, died peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba.

               Barb was born on Sunday, June 25, 1950 in Gladstone, Manitoba.  She grew up in Glenboro and Boissevain with her parents, Mac and Cass Ready.  Barb graduated from high school in Boissevain and quickly became a nurse thereafter.

               Barb’s nursing career brought her north to The Pas in 1971.  She married Gerry in 1973 and together in The Pas they raised two wonderful children, Scott and Erin.

               Barb’s nursing career was a source of great joy to her.  She worked in many nursing areas including pediatrics, addictions, the operating room, the medical ward, long term care and at Beatrice Wilson Health Centre.  She was well respected by her coworkers and patients alike.  Everyone loved working with Barb.  It was not unusual for her former patients to stop her in the community for a hug and a visit.

               Barb also enjoyed travelling.  Mexico was a favorite destination, she and Gerry were able to visit several times.  She also enjoyed reunion type trips to Glenboro and Boissevain, maintaining many close relationships in those communities.

               In retirement, Barb’s favorite activities involved spending time with girlfriends, going out for lunch and taking road trips to Flin Flon for shopping.  Happy hour visits were always a big hit.

               Barb is survived by her husband Gerry; son Scott Atchison (Teddi) in Sudbury; daughter Erin Elton (Kevin) in Brandon; Scott’s children Presley, Oliver and Emmett; Erin’s son Seth Popika; Barb’s sister Bijou Howatt (Jim) and their children Amy and Matthew.  Last, but not least, Barb leaves behind Mr. Mac, her beloved Shitsu.

               Barb was predeceased by her parents Mac and Cass Ready.

               A celebration of Barb’s life for family and friends will be held privately at a later date.

               In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas and Area Animal Shelter Inc., Box 4079, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1S2, would be appreciated by Barb and her family.
