Clifford Weldon Obituary

Clifford (Cliff) John Weldon passed peacefully, at the place he loved and said he would never leave, Clearwater Lake, Manitoba, on May 4, 2024.

Cliff was born January 24, 1958, at St. Anthony Hospital to Jack and Thelma Weldon, the second of six children. He started working at Manitoba Forestries as a labourer in 1976. He attended school from 1993 to 1997 and obtained his millwright Red Seal in May of 1997. Changes at the sawmill meant it was no longer possible to stay at Clearwater Lake, so in 2011 Cliff began a new adventure in Yorkton, SK working for Grain Millers as a millwright. Around the mill he was known as “Uncle Cliff” (a well-aged rookie). He travelled back on weekends regularly until Clearwater Lake called him back permanently in 2022, when he packed up his toolbox and came home.

Cliff loved Clearwater Lake and spent as much time as he could out on the lake water skiing, fishing or cruising in his boat. In the winters, he would be out skidooing. He realized his dream of owning a cottage in June of 1995. In his later years Cliff could be seen trolling along the shoreline visiting with everyone and anyone. When it got too dark to be out on the water, more visiting happened during his campfire chats. He would start a fire and friends would just stop in for a drink and a chat. Cliff never let the fire go out.

When he was younger, Cliff curled and played hockey. Eventually he moved up from player and coached minor hockey with Bob Hayes. They both believed that all kids should get to play and travel No matter the outcome, win or lose, everyone had fun on the trips. When the official coaching was done, he became the biggest fan. No matter where he lived. He watched Junior A hockey. When he was in The Pas, he supported The Blizzard and Flin Flon Bombers; when he was in Yorkton, he supported the Terriers and Melville Millionaires.

His love of music and sports meant he was always on the go.  He would travel to concerts and games (curling, hockey and football) every chance he got. When he was 18, he went on a European vacation. That was just the beginning of the travel bug biting him. The trips Cliff loved the most were not only with family but also the ones he took with his Destiny Tours family to watch Canada play in the World Junior tournaments. He travelled to Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland and even visited Russia. When the tournaments were closer to home, the group travelled to someplace warm, and they watched the games online together.

In his retirement, Cliff became a volunteer in the park. He could constantly be seen out in his rhino cleaning the ditches. You could also find him at the hall volunteering behind the bar whenever they needed him. Tuesday afternoons were spent at the hall playing poker with fellow lakers. In conversation, he was quick to mention his wins and losses.

Cliff is survived by his Dad, Jack, his sisters Sandi (Tim), Norma, Kim (Mark) and brothers Glen (Sue) and Scott (Lorrie) and their families.

Cliff is predeceased by his mom, Thelma, and his nephew, Cy.

Cliff will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

We invite you to join the family as we celebrate the life of our son and brother, Cliff Weldon.

The come and go celebration will take place June 29, 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm at Clearwater Lake Social Club (The Pas Airport).
