Cynthia Haight Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Cindy Richards Haight on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the age of 63.

Cindy was born in The Pas, Manitoba, the daughter of Markella Kleber and William Messer, and one of seven siblings. She and her brothers and sisters were later adopted by Rene Richards, a turning point in their early lives. Cindy experienced great sorrow throughout her journey, including the heartbreaking loss of her brother Dennis and years later, her beloved son Devin—losses she mourned deeply and carried with her always.

At just 16, Cindy moved to Calgary with John Ellenberger, whom she married in 1980, marking the beginning of her journey as a young mother. In 1982, she welcomed her first daughter, Amanda (Mandi), in Saskatoon. Along the way, she formed treasured friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Later, Cindy found love again with her second husband, David Haight. In 1987, they welcomed their son Devin, a cherished addition to her growing family. Together, they went on to embrace an adventurous life, moving through 18 different towns and cities—including Whitehorse, Yukon and Kamloops—experiencing new places and building memories along the way.

After their time together, Cindy returned to her hometown of The Pas in 1991, where she put down lasting roots. It was there that she continued to build her life and family, welcoming her daughters Jacqueline in 1998 and Shayla in 1999—each a blessing that brought renewed purpose and joy. She remained devoted to raising her children while also continuing on her own journey of growth and self-discovery.

Cindy was a woman of strength, independence, and endless resilience. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life—from telephone operator, to food truck and restaurant owner—but never stopped striving for more. She proudly earned her high school diploma in 2007 and her Health Care Aide Certificate in 2011. Her greatest professional fulfillment came through her work with the Manitoba Métis Federation, where she began in 2011 and later became a Community Justice Worker in 2015. Her personal experiences gave her the rare gift of true empathy. As she often said, “I had a past”—a past that helped her connect with people from all walks of life.

Cindy was known for her lively stories, candid wisdom, and generous heart. Whether she was offering advice, sharing a laugh, or speaking her truth without hesitation, she made a lasting impression on everyone around her. Her presence drew people in, her resilience was inspiring, and her love for her family and friends knew no bounds.

Cindy is lovingly survived by her daughters – Mandi (Kerri Uffelman), Jackie Richards (Ryan Larock) and Shayla Richards (Patrick Stevenson); her grandchildren, whom she adored – Hope (Cole Haukaas), Austin (Ashley Petryk), Ashton, Carter, and baby Olivia.

Cindy was predeceased by her son, Devin; brother Dennis; sister Lorraine; and several cherished childhood friends. She will be forever missed, eternally loved and always remembered.
