Danny Young

Danny (dad) was born Wednesday, March 18, 1953 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, to Stanley and Ella Young.

           Danny is survived by wife Stella and three children Danny Jr, Charlene (Reginald), Pauline, Ayla; and 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

His siblings are Janet Dixon, Isaac (Mary), Marlene, Cynthia; special niece Charlotte Lathlin; and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Danny was predeceased by parents Ella and Stanley; siblings Harold, Wayne, Peter, Lionel, Mildred; and sister-in-law Helen.

Danny received his education at the Indian Day School, Opasquia School and took advantage of any programs given at the local level.

Danny travelled far and wide with his family. He wanted them to know that there was more to life than just Opaskwayak. His favorite holiday was going out west to Banff, Edmonton and Drumheller. Sometimes we camped out and sometimes we stayed at a good hotel. Our trip included a ride on the Gondola, visit to the fair and a stay at West Edmonton Mall.

Danny enjoyed coaching his hockey team The Pas Blades and he took them to many tournaments plus he coached a soccer team named "Kickers".

Danny was never worried about expenses, because he would ask his wife, "How much money you got?" As long as the team was entered and they played well, he was happy. The teams were champions most of the time and became known in all Canadian Hockey tournaments.

One of Danny’s big accomplishments for his high school hockey team was bringing them up to a triple A (AAA) level and the boys did well. He took the team to provincials. Ryan Hester made it to CKY sports news with his fancy moves. Plus, Danny was on the Blizzard Board of Directors.

He met and married his wife Stella in 1971 and they lived happily ever after. Earlier in life, he was also a firefighter on OCN. There was no fire truck then but they did try and help. He also liked to run 10 miles a day with his wife driving behind him. He was a paddler and won the Canadian Championship in Flin Flon in 1971, with Gordon Young.

The proudest moment in his life was when he became a councillor. Danny helped and assisted in all community events and problems. He remained there for 14 years. He was so happy when his nephews became Chief and Council; Mike “Muckoo”, Chris “Chibber”, Justin “Wheels”, Frank “Relic”, JP Martin, Dale. He was also a bus driver for Education for 40 years. He had to retire because of his illness.

Danny Young will be missed by all who knew him especially by his wife Stella, of 54 years.
