Darryl Tye, age 65, sadly passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2026 at his home in Cranberry Portage. Darryl was born in Flin Flon Manitoba to Alice and Ray Tye and grew up in Cranberry Portage and Thompson, Manitoba.
In Cranberry Portage, Darryl attended The Cranberry Elementary School and Frontier Collegiate Institute. As a teenager Darryl loved sports such as floor, hockey and track and field. Floor hockey was his favourite sport during Frontier Games.
During the late 70’s, Darryl worked at Inco in Thompson where he met his wife Angie, who he later married in 1981. A few years later he then returned to Cranberry Portage to log in the bush and work at Leptick Sawmill.
Later in life, he held various positions in the field of Carpentry and completed major projects in Flin Flon, Creighton, and Cranberry Portage. Darryl was actively employed by Grenier Builders during many of these projects. Darryl was also employed by the Manitoba Parks Branch in Cranberry Portage for 18 years. He loved driving his loader at work in the provincial parks at Gyles, Iskwasum, and Reed Lake. He mentored several teenagers in the community during their first summer jobs over the years. He retired from his position in 2024, and was elated when he found his dream job and became a bus driver for The Engaged Learners Program located in Cranberry Portage. Darryl really enjoyed his time spent socializing with the students and staff and looked forward to going to work each day.
Over the years, Darryl was an avid member of the Frontier School Committee in Cranberry Portage for 30 Years. He was extremely proud of his work and accomplishments as a committee member.
Darryl had quite a passion for his family, music, storytelling, fishing, and hunting. Darryl and Angie raised two children, Scott and Ashley. Darryl loved his children and grandchildren and being called “Poppa” as he would say it. He also loved listening to his Rock and Roll bands and often played drums on the furniture, whenever he got the chance. While storytelling, he could entertain those around him for hours relaying old stories with his jovial laughter. He was also very passionate about fishing and hunting. He enjoyed both ice fishing and regular fishing. While his hunting trips were mainly geared towards hunting moose, he hunted deer too, from time to time. His latest hobby though was painting birdhouses that he planned to decorate his yard with in the Spring.
Darryl is survived by his wife Angela Tye, his son Scott (Erin) Tye, daughter Ashley (Shane) Luke, sister Kathy (Geordie) Head, brother Dave Tye (Carmen Madland); Grandchildren: Hannah Spence, Rylan Tye, Quinn Tye, Vada Tye and Brooklyn Luke, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Darryl is predeceased by his Mother and Father: Alice & Ray Tye, grandfather Michael Litwicky, grandmother Katherine Litwicky, sister Brenda Leptick, and uncle Morris Litwicky.
