It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Dawn Pfund. Dawn was born on Monday, September 14, 1953 to Clifford and Olive Sabel. She was raised by her father Clifford and step-mother Leona with four siblings: sister Judy, brothers Marty, Freddy and Jerry in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Dawn had one child; a beautiful baby girl, Destiny, who was born on November 22, 1971. Dawn built a wonderful life with her daughter and took great pride in raising Destiny to become the fine woman she is today.
Dawn was a very special and unique person in many ways. As a young girl, she learned to sew and make her own clothes. This skill was well developed and she became an award-winning seamstress for quilts that were so finely crafted. She was able to sew anything from as small as a chic little oven mitt to a beautiful wedding dress. Her skills and talents did not stop with her sewing. Her hobbies ranged from creating gorgeous cross-stitch pictures to creating her own patterns to develop lovely stained-glass pieces. She carried her artistic flare to the outdoors where vegetable gardens, flower gardens and landscaping ideas were bountiful.
Dawn loved the outdoor life. Fishing was her all-time favourite and was eager to go all year round. She often out-fished Gib and everyone else as well. In the summer if she wasn’t fishing she’d often be on the water in either her canoe or kayak. If it floated she was on it. If you couldn’t find Dawn on the lake you would find her out in the yard with her bow and arrow. She thoroughly enjoyed archery and became an excellent shot with that arrow. If the bull’s eye became too crowded she could split an arrow. Her outdoor life no doubt is what brought out her love for animals. She had a special spot in her heart for dogs and was known to have at least two. They were definitely her babies.
Her skills and creativity knew no end. This carried through to her kitchen where many, many delicious meals, baked goods, and desserts were enjoyed by family and friends. Dawn was very much a people person and enjoyed evenings hosting dinner parties and playing cards. Her cooking skills won over the hearts of the crews she cooked for in her last job as camp cook just north of Wanless.
Dawn had a thirst for knowledge that was never quenched. Her main occupation throughout her life was that of a nurse. After moving to The Pas, Dawn studied nursing and achieved her LPN and spent several years working at St. Anthony’s Hospital, St. Paul’s Personal Care Home and finally a Health Care Nurse. This was definitely a calling for Dawn as her clients enjoyed her visits as much as she enjoyed them. In more recent years, she studied reflexology. Once she mastered the feet, she studied hand and ear reflexology
Dawn and Gib met in 1993, and this courtship lead to a wedding on August 24, 1996. Their marriage lasted well over 20 years.
Dawn is predeceased by her parents, Cliff and Leona Sabel, sister Judy, brother Marty. Dawn is survived by her daughter, Destiny; Gilbert; brothers Freddy and Jerry, nieces and friends too numerous to mention.
In keeping with family wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of Dawn's life will be held at a later date.
