It is with broken hearts, we regretfully announce the passing of our beloved Mother,
Girlie (Doris) Violet Nabess.
Girlie was born in The Pas, Manitoba on March 18th, 1966 to her parents Raymond and Violet Jacobson, and was reunited with her parents and sister Sheri on December 30th, 2025, at the age of 59 in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her family by her side.
Girlie and her husband, Jesse, built a loving life together in The Pas, Manitoba, raising their children, Shannon and Jesse Jr. Later in life, Girlie found her greatest joy being Nana to her granddaughters, Tarynn and Layla. She also welcomed her daughter-in-law, Leah, with open arms. In 2011, she graduated from University College of the North (UCN) with her Early Childhood Education level II diploma (ECE), sharing her accomplishment with family and friends. Girlie spent all of her summers at mile 32 at Cormorant Lake, surrounded by nature, family, friends, and love. She treasured her time spent on the lake, whether she was on the boat with her husband Jesse, having a fish fry, or sitting around her campfire with her loved ones and music playing in the background. During her time at mile 32, one of her favourite pastimes was having her friends and family share many special moments with her, usually in her kitchen enjoying a meal or singing songs with guitar and spoons being played in the background. When she wasn’t at the lake, Girlie worked at Little Dreamers Daycare, where she put her whole heart into loving her babies. She took great pride in taking care of them and was employed there for 20 years.
Girlie was a kind hearted, strong-spirited person, who never backed down from anything. She had a loving personality that will never be forgotten. Girlie was always there to offer love and support to whoever needed it. She had a special kind of love, the love that sticks with you forever. She always gave you a hand to hold or a shoulder to cry on, whatever you needed, she was there. Girlie blessed everyone around her and touched many hearts and souls.
Girlie’s spirit and endless love will continue in the lives of her husband Jesse; her daughter, Shannon; her granddaughters, Tarynn and Layla; her son, Jesse Jr. (Leah); her brothers Patrick (Kelly), Darryl (Lisa), and Raymond (Anna); as well as her nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, and many friends.
