Dorothy LeBlanc Obituary

It is with love and sadness that the family announces the passing of Dorothy LeBlanc our beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, surrounded by her family at St. Anthony's General Hospital in The Pas, MB on Thursday August 22, 2024, at the age of 84.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Richard LeBlanc of 60 years, her children, Marie, Nancy (Jeff), Michael (Patricia), her grandchildren Nicolette (Mike), Jessica, Riley, along with many family and friends.

Dorothy was born on the family farm in Bismarck, North Dakota on December 22, 1939. She was 5th in a family of 7. She was raised in the Bismarck area and attended Bismarck High School. Dorothy worked in the pharmacy at Saint Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. It was in Bismarck where she met Richard.  A few years later they married on June 13, 1964 and moved to The Pas, Manitoba. Four children soon followed: identical twins Mary and Marie in February 1965, Nancy in May 1966 and Michael in February 1971. Mary passed away within 2 months from birth.
Dorothy was predeceased by her infant daughter Mary, her parents Grace and Vincent Sabot, her brothers Leonard, Robert, her sisters Evelyn Hochhalter, and Vivian Schirado.

As a proud homemaker Dorothy maintained a busy household with three kids, making and planning healthy meals on a tight budget, and keeping a regular, organized routine for the family. She loved to bake and excelled at it. She was an expert at gardening, pickling, canning, preserving, making jams, jellies and most of all her homemade pumpkin pie! She enjoyed being grandma to her grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of the circle of friends that she had met over the years.

But most of all she enjoyed being with Richard. They were a team and they told each other they loved each other everyday and that they were best friends. In fact, early into married life Richard and Dorothy began a business together called “D & R Electronics”. As retirement years were upon them, Dorothy and Richard retired at the lake cabin, a cabin they built together with love. They were always together, and they liked it that way. Some said they were together so much that they started to look like each other!

Dorothy was a passionate volunteer with many local clubs: The Pas Flying Club and Casara, (35 years), and for many years along with Richard, a canvasser for cancer.

Above all of this was her attention to her spiritual life that made her stand out. Dorothy's life focused on supporting the ministries of CWL for over 48 years. We are thankful for all that she has done for us and by who she was as a Christian person. She was a woman of strength, compassion, love, strong values and perseverance, all while contributing her worth to God’s guiding hands.

As we gathered around her bedside, we felt an overwhelming sense of loss, but also immense gratitude for the love she instilled in us. Her greatest wish was to have her family gathered around her as a reminder of the strength of our family bond, and to have a celebration of her life to remember and cherish all the happy moments.  Dorothy was the heart of our family, a beacon of love and support. She is in now in heaven watching over us all.

Dorothy lived a full, long life. Dorothy battled many health conditions and did so often with a smile.  Now Dorothy is at peace, and re-united once again with her daughter Mary. Dorothy's love will forever echo in our hearts. As we continue to gather as a family, we honor her memory and the values she instilled in us. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit will always guide us.
