Elof Haggstrom

July 27, 1955 ~ April 27, 2022 (age 66)

Obituary

Elof passed away with his wife and daughter by his side at Brandon ICU on Wednesday April 27, 2022.

Elof was the first born of three children to Melvin and Norma Haggstrom. His early days were spent living in the Porcupine Plains of Saskatchewan, before moving with the family to The Pas.

Growing up Elof often helped his Dad with Frechettes Dairy deliveries, picking up the empty bottles, and dropping off the new fresh supplies.

Growing up Elof lived next door to the Fox family who often had family visiting. It is there that he met Rosemary, who was visiting with her family. Elof and Rosemary married on August 31st 1974 in The Pas.

After living in Winnipeg for a short time they moved back to The Pas, and Elof worked for numerous hauling companies.

Elof went on to drive school bus around The Pas. He was a well known and liked bus driver. He had a reputation for the stereo system he cranked in the bus, the shaving cream fights he orchestrated between busses, and the treats he gave the kids.

Eventually, Elof went on to drive the garbage truck for the Town of the Pas until retirement. During these years, his favourite part was often the treats people would give them as they did their route, and the young children who would excitedly wait to wave at the truck as they drove past.

In 1993 Elof and Rosemary adopted their only child, Ginny.  Elof was a true family man, and he made sure there was always lots for them to do.  Ski-doing in the winter, and for 11 years, they spent their summers camping at Rocky Lake.

In his spare time, Elof was a sports fan. Being born in Saskatchewan, he often said, is what made him an avid Saskatchewan Rough Riders fan by default. But his favourite sport was Hockey. He could often be found at a local Blizzard game, yelling, and cheering loudly, and waving a big flag every time the team scored

He also enjoyed fishing in the river behind their house and inviting friends out to join him for the afternoon.

Elof was a hard worker, a dedicated father and husband, and a great friend and neighbour. He always had a joke, and a way to put a smile on anyone’s face with his bright sense of humour. He was also the kind of guy who would help anyone, no questions asked.

Elof leaves to mourn his wife Rosemary Haggstrom, daughter Ginny Haggstrom; Aunt Sharon Bugera, Florie (Ken) Bennett; Sister Shirley (Gord) Murray; Sisters- in- law Lena (George) Sanderson, Karen Luce, Pamela Luce; Brothers-in-law Gunter Biel, Kenny (Colleen) Luce, Doug (Donna) Luce, John Luce, Dwight (Jennifer) Luce, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Elof was Predeceased by Mother Norma Haggstrom, Father Melvin Haggstrom, Sister Valerie Biel, Mother- in- Law Rose Luce, Father-in-law Melvin Luce.

In keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place and a Come and Go Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
