“Chinky”
Peacefully at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba, Ernest passed away Friday, March 27th, 2026, at the age of 79 years old with his loving wife Lucy and his family at his bedside.
Ernest was born Saturday, February 1st, 1947, in Moose Lake, Manitoba. He married on Friday, November 10, 1978, to his Love Ella Lucy, together they raised their five children, he also called his grandson Brody “my son” “my boy”, (Little Chinky). Also raised: Sherry, Albertine, Charmaine, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He worked as logger with Moose Lake Loggers, then Ehman Logging until his retirement, he always claimed to say, “my time is now to fiddle with my fingers”. Sadly, after the house fire in Moose Lake, together with his wife Ella Lucy they found a place began their lives at The Gateway where they made several friends, Michelle started calling Gordan Constant (Gawchin) - uncle. This was home for Michelle, until she moved away.
In his younger days Ernest enjoyed taking his boys camping trips. He also enjoyed working with his sons logging working side by side with him. So many memories and teachings. Ernest had a way of making you feel welcome and invited, he shared his stories, his strength for life and his laughter.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife Ella Lucy, and his children: Faron (Linda), Gene (Jen), Joey (Lyrecia), Vernon (Jenny), and Michelle (Travis). His other children: Michelle, Zerlina, Audrey, Amanda, Ernest, Edward, Lorie, and Diana. His siblings Albert, Olive (Reg) Hiller, Teddy, Doreen Willis, Melvin, Dennis, Tommy (Lydia) and Patsy, and his grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and many friends.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents: Jean Baptiste & Mary, his siblings: Stanley, Joe “Emery”, Butch, Albert, Lillian, Marie, Margaret, Louie and Jeanette (Muffy), infant son: Michael. Other family members too many to mention.
