Gerald Clarence Johnson was born in Canwood, SK on June 22, 1934 to Charlie and Edith (Morrish) Johnson. Gerald passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024 at St. Paul's Personal Care Home.
Gerald joined the Royal Canadian Navy in February of 1953. He then was in Active peacetime duty until his honourable retirement in February 1958. During that time he married his lifetime love Marlene Watts in The Pas, MB. Together they lived in Victoria, Ottawa and Churchill during his Navy career. They then lived in Cranberry Portage where Gerald worked as warehouse foreman for CAE at the RCAF station. During their travels their 4 sons were born. They returned to The Pas and Gerald worked for the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission before finally retiring as liquor store manager to Clearwater Lake.
Gerald loved all types of sports and was active in his younger years playing hockey, baseball and curling. He then transitioned to watching all types of sports on television and reading every Louise Lamour novel written. Gerald really enjoyed belonging to the local Elks Club, becoming a lifetime member. He had an easy going, friendly way of life and funny sayings like "walk this way" or "gone to lake".
Gerald was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Marlene, his parents, his brothers Bernard, Stanley, Donald and Eugene his sisters Irene and May and his daughter in law Gail.
Gerald is survived by his four sons Brian (Florence), Bob (Donna), Doug (Brenda) and Glen (Joan), his sister Shirley (Garry) Wray, grandchildren Jaime (Marty), Michael (Laura), Susan (Taylor), Jordan (Amanda), Alex (Izzy), Cable (Carlin), sister in law Lorna Nohlgren, daughter in law MJ Donald as well as numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
