GERALDINE (GERRY) PATRICIA CLOUTIER (HOLMES)
Jan. 25, 1931 to May 17, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce that our mom, Geraldine Cloutier passed peacefully at St. Paul's Personal Care Home in The Pas, Manitoba after a very long and happy 95 years.
Mom was the eldest of 3 children born to parents Charles and Josephine (Poirier) Holmes. She lived in The Pas most of her life and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School. Gerry was a very bright student with medals in excellence to prove it. She particularly liked working with numbers and did her own taxes until well into her 80's.
Mom met our dad, Joseph (Joe) when he returned after serving in the Korean War. They married shortly after, and children, Joanne, Louise, and Kenny followed.
Mom had several jobs throughout her life. She worked in a dental lab for Dr. Williams, pediatrics and CSR in St. Anthony's Hospital, and at both The Pas Herald and the Opasquia Times.
Mom was a great cook and baker, and was an avid gardener. The yard on Bignell Ave. was a source of pride for both mom and dad. She also loved to knit and crochet and made many beautiful items for her children and grandchildren.
Mom and dad loved dogs. The Cloutier house was home to many little furry ones over the years, and it was hard for mom when she lost her last pet, Claire.
Mom was a very social lady, enjoying outings with friends and happily working in the kitchen with The Legion Ladies Auxiliary, of which she was a lifelong member. She also enjoyed working with Kay Murphy and the ladies in the Guy Hall kitchen. In 2020, mom received the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers for her 62 years of community service.
Mom was very lucky that she had many good friends and neighbors who watched out for her after dad passed, and we thank them for being there. We'd also like to thank the staff from Senior Health Care (St. Paul's, Assisted Living, Homecare, Meals on Wheels) for making the last 5 years as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Thank you to the Hemauer Funeral Home staff for their guidance and compassion. And to Father Shanta for visiting mom. His last visit was the night she passed.
Mom is survived by her children Joanne (Paddy), Louise (Jade) and Kenny (Margaret); grandchildren Shayne (Eric), Brennyn, Ryan (Bryan), Michael, Dana (Andrea), Kale (Britt), and Katarina; great grandchildren Jaden, Riley, and Claire. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe, her infant daughter, her parents, sister Pauline, brother Charles, and many other relatives.
A graveside Celebration of Life for both mom and dad will be held sometime in the fall.
Rest in Peace dear mom. We love you.
