Gladys Doroshenko Obituary

GLADYS DOROSHENKO

MARCH 23RD, 1928 – JANURARY 9TH, 2025

Gladys Doroshenko, a beloved and longtime resident of The Pas, passed away at St. Paul’s Residence on January 9th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and quiet strength. Gladys was born on March 23rd, 1928, in Winnipeg, the only child of John and Tillie Doroshenko. Her childhood was filled with love and warmth, as she grew up in the bustling town where her father worked as the local barber and her mother ran a confectionary store on Fischer Ave. It was there that Gladys could often be found, helping her mother behind the counter and learning the value of hard work and dedication.

As a young teen, Gladys faced a significant challenge when she fell and had to undergo hip surgery, long before such procedures became commonplace. Despite the surgery not setting properly, Gladys never let her physical limitations define her. She carried herself with grace and courage, never once complaining about the pain or the difficulties she faced. Her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.

After her father’s passing in 1988, Gladys, along with her mother, moved to the Valhalla Co-op, where they continued to build a life filled with love and cherished memories. It was a testament to Gladys's strength and resilience that she continued to live independently at the Valhalla with the help of Home Care after her mother's passing in 1997. Despite facing several falls, Gladys remained steadfast and determined, embodying a quiet but unyielding spirit that endeared her to all who crossed her path.

In 2016, Gladys made the decision to move to St. Paul’s, where she found a new home and a community of caring individuals who embraced her with open arms. She was a woman of simple pleasures, finding joy in the quiet moments spent reading, staying informed about current affairs and politics, and keeping up to date on the latest happenings in Hollywood. She also cherished the memories of long rides in the countryside and fishing excursions with her beloved parents and cousins Frank, Victor, and Denis.

The family of Gladys Doroshenko would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at St. Paul’s for their exceptional care and unwavering support during the times when she needed it most. Their compassion and kindness provided Gladys with comfort and companionship, ensuring that she was surrounded by love and warmth until the end.

As Gladys bids farewell to this world, she leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering grace. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Gladys. May you find eternal peace and reunite with your beloved parents, knowing that your spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who remember you with love and fondness.

As per Gladys's wishes, she will be laid to rest at a later date, next to her parents at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas,
