Helen Delainey was born on Tuesday, February 15, 1938 to Joseph and Winnifred Harripaul in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Helen was one of 10 children. Helen passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, on her birthday at the age of 88 years old at St Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas Manitoba.
Helen met her soul mate Archie Delainey in the United States and they corresponded by letters. She moved to Watson, Saskatchewan and Archie and her were married in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, in the United Church, on October 18, 1966. They lived with Archie’s parents to help with farming, then later moved to The Pas Manitoba. Archie worked as an orderly and Helen as a nurses aid on the pediatric ward at St. Anthony’s Hospital. They adopted their son David and she became a stay at home mom. Helen also did some babysitting in her own home. She later became a home care worker also worked at The Pas Herald. She retired at the age of 65 years.
Helen enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing uno and her little garden in the backyard. She also enjoyed shopping. When she was in St. Paul’s she said she missed shopping the most. She loved talking on the phone with her friends Ila Nakonechny, Linda Herman and Ernie and Lorna Hanchuk and family members.
Left to cherish Helen’s memory is her son David; grandchildren Kristen and Tye Delainey; great grandchild Zavian; sister Marion Parker in Trinidad and brothers Albert and Edward; brothers and sisters-in law Clarence and Margaret Delainey, Philip and Diane Delainey, and Jenny Delainey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
