In loving memory of our mother and wife, Janet Jacqueline Moore (Sahkapiskiw Mikisiw Wachickew) Strong Eagle Mountain Woman. Janet passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 with her family by her side at Health Science Centre Hospital, Intensive Care Unit in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 54 years.
Janet attended her junior education years in Moose Lake and Leaf Rapids. Janet graduated from high school in 1992. Janet moved to The Pas where she reconnected with her childhood love who eventually became her husband. Sherwin and Janet build a life together in a shed in the back of Dan and Maria’s house. Eventually, they bought their own home during the time they welcomed their son, Danzel, on a Christmas Day who she referred to as her Tweet. Danzel was her pride and joy. Of course, the next logical steps for her was to get married. Janet and Sherwin were united in marriage on May 27, 2000. Then, another miracle arrived on the birth of their daughter, Jennelle. Janet and Jennelle were very close and were the best of friends. Janet pursued a nursing program at University of the North. Janet changed her career path to challenge a government services program and worked for the Swampy Cree Tribal Council for many years.
Janet and Sherwin raised other children including Donovan, Benjamin and Babs. Janet was Godmother to Darien, Carter John, Nathan Moore and Shanelle Spence, who she loved dearly and she regarded Eugene Ross as a brother who she grew up and whom she was very close to.
Although Janet was small in stature, she had the heart of a giant and loved all who were around her. Sher loved her bingo buddies, co-workers, cousins, aunties, uncles and even the pets that Sherwin would bring home. Janet followed the red road with her husband faithfully along with her Catholic belief and faith. Janet loved to travel and visit many places in Canada and USA. Janet loved to attend Powwow’s and watch her daughter dance who is a jingle dress dancer.
Janet is predeceased by her parents, John and Hazel Sanderson; sisters Bernadette Sanderson, Pauline Ross, Violia Cook; and brothers Roy Sanderson and Harry Sanderson.
Janet is survived by her husband Sherwin; children, Danzel and Jennelle; sister Denise; brothers Cecil and Allan; sister-in-law Ginger Sinclair Martin (John Paul); step Dad Elmer Sinclair; mother-in-law Maria and father-in-law Dan Moore; brothers-in-law, Marty (Jamie) and Byron; aunties Suzette, Stella (Dan), Beverly (Clarence), Lucy (Ernest) and many nieces, nephews, and uncles. If we forgot anyone, it was not intentional.
