Janice was born to Brenda and Dave Stevenson as a 3.5 lb preemie on Thursday, January 17, 1985, in Winnipeg, MB. She passed away at the age of 41 years old on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11:41 a.m. in Winnipeg, MB.
Jan left for the Spirit World peacefully with her mother Brenda, brother Grant, children Geri, CJ and Fraser, granddaughter Harper, aunts, uncles and cousins by her side.
Jan leaves to mourn her family: mother Brenda; brother Grant; children Geri, Clayton and Fraser; grandchildren Amara, Harper and Cambrie; maternal family Betsy (Larry) Head, Olive Lathlin, Velma (Larry) Cowley, Marty (Shanna) Cowley, Curtis Cowley, Diane (Clint) Sanderson, Gerald (Rachel) Cowley, Jen Cowley; paternal family Wilfred Stevenson, Lloyd (Cecile) Stevenson, Alan Stevenson, Patricia Moore, Marlene (Gary) Doerksen, Sharon (Howard) French, William (Monica) Stevenson and Earl Stevenson; as well as numerous cousins on both sides of the family.
Jan was predeceased by her father Dave; brother Fraser; maternal grandparents Jerry and Irene Cowley; uncles Vince Cowley, Don Lathlin; paternal grandparents Michael and Annie Stevenson of Peguis, MB; uncle and Godfather Zacc Moore; auntie Mina Stevenson; and cousin Terry Moore.
Jan was a very caring and beautiful woman who loved others unconditionally as was evident when her cousin Kristen Cowley facetimed Jan for the last time.
Kristen: Hi Jan, Jan looked at Kris and said Hey Kris.
Kristen: I didn’t know it was this serious!
Jan: It’s okay. I’m alright and I’ll be okay. Don’t worry.
Kris: I love you
Jan: I love you too
Kris: I’ll be there as soon as I can.
Jan: Okay
When Kristen got to Winnipeg, Jan had woken up for a second, smiled and said Hi.
Jan loved doing Legos with her son CJ and watching the night stars together. Jan was very proud of watching her son Fraser play hockey with his great skating and puck handling skills. Jan loved cooking with Geri and taught Geri the love of cooking.
Jan had a big heart and would try her best to help others in need. She enjoyed journaling, being with friends, special friends, Jay, Vinnie and Pops. Jan enjoyed spending time with Garfield at the Casino. She loved the outdoors. She had many friends. Jan participated in Sweatlodges and Sundances. Jan was Oji-Cree. One of her favorite teachers was Mr. Fontaine, who would tease her and call her a “mixed up Indian”. She enjoyed her high school days with her friends and teachers and going on volleyball trips. She had graduated from the KSD Adult Ed Program.
On Monday night, she talked to her auntie Val Whyte from Pukatawagon by facetiming. She said, “I loved the trips to Pukatawagon. I loved watching the sparkling water when we rode in a boat.” That memory touched Val’s heart. Val thanked her and sang some songs and said prayers for Jan to help with her journey to the Spirit World.
Jan will be greatly missed from those who truly knew her. She was known as “Meme” to her grandchildren who already miss her terribly. CJ said he will always miss Meme. Fraser said, “I’m sorry mom.” We will continue to carry on and we know your beautiful spirit will always be with each one of us. See you on the other side.
If we have left out any names, it was not intentional.
