Jarmo Hamalainen

February 18, 1962 – October 8, 2023

                Jarmo passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 61 years.

                Jarmo was born in Heinola, Finland on February 18, 1962 to Veikko and Lena Hamalainen.  In 1967 younger brother Juha joined the family.

                In 1972 his family moved to The Pas, Manitoba with other families to work at the Kraft Paper Mill.

                Jarmo spent his young years making new lifelong friends among other Finnish families and local kids.  In 1982 Jarmo graduated from MBCI and started work at the Kraft paper Mill until his retirement.

                In 2007, Jarmo became the proud father of a son, Logan.  He was a wonderful and hands on dad right from the beginning.  Logan was his world, spending many hours playing, crafting, learning, Legos and homework.  They also spent numerous hours painting and renovating.  Logan learned a lot from his dad during his teenage years and will carry on his legacy into the future.

                Jarmo was a devout Indy racing fan, attending a race in Vancouver and an avid sports fan.  He enjoyed the outdoors, ski-dooing, fishing, camping and saunas and the food network.  Spending numerous hours with family and friends, old and new, meant a lot to him.

                In 2017, the family welcomed a rescue pup named Hazel into their home.  She stole his heart right from the beginning and they became inseparable.

                Jarmo is survived by his son Logan; partner of many years, Donna; and brother Juha.

                Jarmo was predeceased by his parents Veikko and Lena Hamalainen.

                Behind his tough exterior, Jarmo had a big heart.  He will be greatly missed by everyone close to him.  We love and miss you, never to be forgotten.

                In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pas and Area Animal Shelter Inc., PO Box 4079, The Pas, MB, R9A 1S2, would be appreciated by Jarmo’s family. 

                A celebration of life will be held for Jarmo in the summer of 2024.
