Jennifer Snider Obituary

Jennifer Raylene Snider was born Friday April 13, 1979 in The Pas, MB to Tom and Dorothy Snyder. She was the oldest of their two children.

Jennifer (Jen) spent her entire life living in The Pas, MB. She loved her hometown and cared for many people who lived there.

Jen was a sweet, soft spoken child growing up. Her mother Dorothy would say, Jen could be put in a playpen with blocks and play quietly for hours. Dorothy always said that she was unexpected, but one of the best things that ever happened to her, making sure that she documented all of Jen’s firsts in baby books and lots of photos.

Dorothy believed that a child should grow up with a sibling so she and Tom tried for a few years to have another child, even considering adoption. Then her sister Jonie was born when Jen was almost 4. She was the apple of Jen’s eye, becoming a loving big sister and protector of the newest addition to the family.

Jen started her first real part time job at Burger King and as a car hop at the Dutch Drive Inn. She loved working at Burger King and developed amazing friendships with the people who worked there. Over the years, Jen continued to work in several fast food jobs including A&W and Dairy Queen, along with retail jobs at the Bargain Shop and Broadway Confectionary.

Anyone who knew Jen, knew she was a kind and giving person, often giving up things that she had to help others. She was often compelled to help someone who was struggling because she knew what it was like to be down and out on their luck. This drew people to Jen and made them feel comfortable talking to her because they felt safe and unjudged. She wanted people to feel welcome and to be okay with being their true self. She was always so supportive for anyone that came to her.

Jen had a passion for writing short stories for her own enjoyment. She could always be found with a black Papermate pen and coil scribbler in tow when she was having a night in, doing what she loved best. She would spend some nights into the wee hours finishing a story. Very few people were given the opportunity to read what she wrote.

In her earlier days, she loved to dance. She could be found downstairs in the basement of her childhood home dancing to music blasting in the background, letting it all out. When she went out to the bar, she’d usually dance the night away.  Music spoke to her and it was always a big part of who she was, filling the silence.

Over the years, Jen had many close friends – but none like the friend she found in her bestie Jennifer Perrin (nee Sanderson) at the age of 9 in grade 4. The two Jen’s instantly became very close, even subsequently finding out they were actually related to each other. When Jennifer’s children Lenea and LilyAnn were born, Jen, who never had children, treated the girls as her own and loved to spoil them.

Jen was forced to stop working in 2016 due to ill health often resulting in hospitalization.

Jen moved into Pineview Manor in 2020 where she lived until her passing. She quickly made friends there, in particular Stella Lathlin and her partner Dwayne Thomas. Jen enjoyed helping to put on teas and suppers for the residents of the building, investing herself in the community she lived.

Jen passed away suddenly in hospital on December 30th, 2023 leaving to mourn her sister Jonie Snyder (Jeremy), sister of the heart Jennifer Perrin (Chris), nieces Lenea and Lily Ann Perrin and best friends Stella Lathlin and Dwayne Thomas. She also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and past co-workers.

Jen was pre-deceased by her parents, Tom and Dorothy, both maternal and paternal grandparents, Aunts Glenda and Diane and Uncle Philip.

Gone much too soon, you are now at peace sissy, until we meet again.

Love, Jonie.

In keeping with Jennifer’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held in the summer.
