Joan was born in The Pas, Manitoba to Mary Jane and Gordon Lathlin. She met the love of her life, Robbie Niquanicappo in Regina while attending university in the fall of 1982.
After graduating from university Joan and Robbie moved to Great Whale River in northern Quebec with their son Christopher. It was there that they were united in marriage on January 16, 1984. While living there, they were blessed with two more sons, Gordon and Jesse. They continued to live there until June 1995. After moving back to Opaskwayak, they had one more son, Norman and a cherished daughter, Jennifer. Their family was complete.
Joan’s passion for her community led her to work in managerial positions in different departments. She was the first female General Manager of Opaskwayak, a position at which she worked with diligence and expertise that many admired. Her last position at Opaskwayak was as the Vertical Farm manager.
Joan is survived by her husband Robbie; sons Christopher (Tina), Gordon (Ashley), Norman (Nancy); and daughter, Jennifer. Siblings Donna (Bill), Gerald (Margaret), John (Nadean), Ken, Peggy, Joe (Helen); sisters-in-law Sylvia Lathlin-Scott, Betsy Masty; brother-in-law Samson Niquanicappo; her precious grandchildren Sophie, Zoey, Paisley, Diego, Brooklynn, Darren, Notin, Audrina, Natalina, Miley, Gracie and Jadene. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention, whom she loved as her own.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Mary Jane Lathlin; her father-in-law Silas (Charlie) Niquanicappo; mother-in-law Amy Niquanicappo; son Jesse Niquanicappo; brothers Gordon “Massan” Lathlin, Greg Lathlin; brothers-in-law Ralph Anderson, Norman Niquanicappo, Joseph Niquanicappo; sisters-in-law Margaret Niquanicappo, Veronica Lathlin; nephews Riel Nasecapow, Kenneth Lathlin, Trevor Lathlin; and niece Steffi Nasecapow. If we forgot anyone, it was not intentional.
