John was born Tuesday, September 1, 1953 in Moose Lake to Susan and Noah Nasekapow, where he lived most of his younger days until he met his wife Lillian of 40 years. He was also known to many by Little John or Dixie.
In his early years he attended Moose Lake School and he took care of his siblings Jessie, Myra, Flora and Patsy until he moved away to OCN.
He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles and hanging out with his friends and family.
John was a carpenter for Moose Lake Carpentry, laborer at Public Works and then a garbage man with the late Henry Highway.
Little John met his wife in 1984. They live together in Moose Lake with her 3 children, Betty, Rose and Allan, who he helped raise. They moved to Cow Head after a couple of months. Then in 1993, they moved to their forever home on Resolution Drive. Together they had 2 more daughters Krista and Flora. He also helped raise as his own children, Alice George, Theresa “Cheetah” Constant, Clifton Lachose and Darryl “Boy” Young. They had 18 grandchildren together. He had so much love for all his kids and grandchildren and chapans.
Dixie enjoyed when his buddies from Moose Lake would come stop by for a visit. They talked about their time growing up and what their friend group was called “Little John Gang”.
When his sister Agar was living with us he did puzzles and played cards with her. We would often go visit his sister Lena (omenihskaw) and have tea.
After a lengthy battle with emphysema and other health conditions John passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, MB, on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the age of 72 years.
