John de Hoop passed away Friday, May 15, 2020 at St. Anthony’s General Hospital, The Pas, MB, at the age of 82 years. John was born on Wednesday, December 15, 1937 in Wolvega, Friesland, Netherlands.
John and his family immigrated to Canada in 1952. They resided in Red Deer, Alberta, where he received a plumbing apprenticeship. He met Shirley in 1964 and they were married the following October. Carolyn was born in 1966 and the family then moved to The Pas, MB where Mike was born in 1969. When John arrived in Manitoba, he joined the Local 254 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He proceeded to work construction on various dams along the Nelson River. In his construction downtime, he was employed at CFI/ Manfor, and Kelsey School Division in The Pas.
During his retirement, John was an avid reader who also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and living in the valley. John was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Clark) de Hoop in 2014. John is survived by his sister Anna de Hoop (Red Deer), daughter Carolyn (Terry) Hiebert, and son Mike (Teresa) de Hoop. He leaves behind five grandchildren – Lucas, Lantz (Courtney), Logan, Nick, and Michaela as well as one great-granddaughter, Blake.
As per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
