Jonnie Horizon Sky Cook was born November 19, 2009, in The Pas Manitoba, to her mother Mavis McKay (Morton McKay) and father Johnny Q Cook. Jonnie was better known as “Baby Jonnie” by her family. Jonnie brought so much joy and laughter to her family and friends. Jonnie was great in crafting. She had a strong voice that would make you laugh and think twice.
Jonnie and Jay-C would always made sure that they said “I love you” before walking out the door after visiting family and friends, especially to Granny Ida and Grandpa Cookie. Jonnie would always make sure to go visit Granny Maryjane Greenleaf and Grampa Ivan Greenleaf in Cumberland House, Saskatchwan. Jonnie had a great love for her Dad, even though shed kick him out of the house once in a while.
Jonnie would have the best Mom and Daughter moments, she’d tell her mom Mavis her lifelong dreams, accomplishments and achievements. She enjoyed spending a lot of time with her cousins and friends hanging out, joking around and having deep talks with each other.
She loved all her siblings with a great passion, always worried about them. Jonnie make sure that her siblings were doing okay.
Jonnie had a great love for sports especially volleyball, she played for the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate Wolverines volleyball team. She had a great respect for her team members and her coach. She would go on many trips with her team, and she was always the star of the game.
Baby Jonnie, and Grampa Cookie always enjoyed their many coffee rides to Tim Hortons, one day Grandpa drove past Tim Hortons and Baby Jonnie said “Boy I’m thirsty” as she was looking at the Tim Hortons sign so Grandpa had no choice to go to Tim Hortons.
Jonnie was also involved in traditional dancing especially the Jingle dress. Jonnie had a daily journal and many of her writings were of scriptures and prayers of the bible. She has a love for God.
Jonnie loved her niece and nephew with all her heart. She always liked teasing them and making them cry. She loved and missed her baby nephew Troy.
Jonnie and Jay-C were inseparable, they had a love like no other. They had a bond like they were twins. They would always team up on their Dad. They did everything together. She also had good relationships with her Aunties and Uncles.
Baby Jonnie was stylish, she liked dressing up pretty, and that she was. Jonnie liked taking selfies, posing for pictures with her friends and mostly group pictures. She didn’t mind listening to any genre of music.
Jonnie was very expressive when she talked. When hanging out or talking to her, she was very mindful, present and focused. Jonnie will be very missed by all that knew her. Her laughter, her smile, her sense of humor, her kindness, and her love of life. Her memory will live on in all our heart as the love that she taught us all.
Baby Jonnie passed away November 1st, 2025, at Opaskwayak Cree Nation at the age of 15 years. Jonnie was survived by her mother Mavis McKay (Morton McKay) father Johnny Q Cook, brother Hunter Shingoose, Cash Cook, Marlon McKay, Treydence Cook, Sisters Marla Greenleaf,( Kylar Deschambeault), Jay-C Cook, Marlo McKay, Mariea McKay, Neice Blythe Greenleaf, Nephew Troy Deschambeault, Aunties, Julianna Cook, Mathew Cook ( Rose Nasekapow) Phyllis Cook, Clarice Cook, Tianna Thomas, (David Lathlin), Johnathon Greenleaf,(Loretta Greenleaf), Emily Thomas, numerous aunties uncles. Cousins,. Grandparents, David Leo Cook, Ida Head, MaryJane Greenleaf and Ivan Greenleaf. If anyone was not mentioned it was not intentional.
Jonnie was predeceased by her Great Grandparents; Soloman Cook, Irene Cook, Hilda Thomas, Emily Sewap, Rodrick,Thomas, Peter Crane, Marie Greenleaf, Horace Greenleaf, Grandpa Johnathan Thomas; Uncles, Rodrick Cook, Jeffery Cook, Stanley Head, Joseph Head, John A Head, Sonny Easter, Christopher Greenleaf, Marlon Sewap, Morgan Sewap; Aunties, Annie Head, Flora Ross, MaryJane Harris, Marisha Howksbergen, and many other numerous beloved relatives.
