We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our son and brother, Joshua Nikko Lathlin who passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the age of 34 years old.
Josh was born Friday, June 28th, 1991 in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up in Big Eddy, Mile 5 with his parents, Ivan and Phyllis, his siblings Amanda, Al, Jasmine and Summer.
Josh went to Joe A. Ross School from kindergarten to grade 12. He graduated in June 2010. He went on to complete his first year of welding in Prince Albert, SK. He enjoyed playing sports, soccer with the Big Eddy Warriors and Lacrosse and Hockey. He had dreams of playing in the NHL. But that dream was quickly put aside when he hurt his leg in a skidoo accident. Josh played hockey with the OCN Blues, OCN Minor Hockey League from squirts to midget and later on he tried out for the OCN Blizzard and did very well but fell short in the first round.
Josh attended the Black Bear Program (Bold Eagle) in 2009 with the military. He joined the North Saskatchewan Regiment in Prince Albert, in December of 2010. He quickly moved up the ranks from a Private to a Master Corporal. He was a Bold Eagle instructor in Wainwright, Alberta in 2018. His last tour was overseas in the Ukraine where he was a peacekeeper and trained the troops to prepare them for self defense in 2019. That ended early due to Covid when he had to leave early. He retired from the Army in 2020 after serving for 10 years of military service. He took great pride in his achievements.
Josh was a proud father to his two beautiful children, his daughter Alexzanderia age 6, and his son Avery who is 3, going on 4 whom he shared with Suzanne Morin, the mother of his children. He loved spending time with his babies every chance he got and cherished every moment as they both live in Saskatchewan. He made sure to connect with them through regular FaceTime calls. He enjoyed family outings with his children. He loved them very much.
Josh enjoyed playing video games. He loved to play Fortnite with his friends and sisters. His favourite game was avatar which he just recently purchased. He would play for hours at a time.
Josh loved the outdoors and fishing with friends and family or even just by himself. He also liked trapping and hunting. There was one time he went hunting with his dad and brother. He ran through knee high deep snow to get his moose. It was easy for him because he was so tall, it was no problem. He carried his moose out by climbing inside the rib cage of the moose like he was putting on a jacket. I tell you that was a sight to see.
Josh also loved to hang out with friends and family. He enjoyed playing dice and board games such as Risk, Chess and Monopoly. He would also play cards for hours such as Kanasta.
Josh is survived by his mother Phyllis and father Ivan Lathlin; sisters Amanda (Ryan), Jasmine and Summer; brother Al (Dez); nieces Hailey, Gillian, Hazel and Azzy; nephews Tate and Atreus; his children Alexzanderia and Avery Morin.
Aunts on Ivan’s side Wilma Burns (James), Clara Lathlin; uncles Herman Lathlin (Audrey), Charlie W. Lathlin (Evelyn), Edgar Lathlin, Claude Lathlin and Philip Lathlin, Vince Lathlin (Pip).
Aunt on Phyllis’s side Natalie (Ed); uncles Doug (Lana), Keith (Cindy) and Ernest. Many cousins on both sides too numerous to mention. If we forgot anyone it was not intentional.
Josh was predeceased on his father’s side grandparents James Lathlin (MaryAnn); uncle Raymond Lathlin; aunties Vera Bloomfield (Jack) and Raven Bloomfield; cousins James, Lakeisha, Jade and Jr Lathlin. He is also reunited with Mitchell Constant (Griz). On mother’s side grandparents Clem (Marilyn) Richard.
