Lloyd Peter Wicks was born to Lillian (nee Attwood) and Cecil Wicks on Saturday, July 26, 1941 in Port Nelson, Newfoundland. He was one of 12 siblings. Lloyd was a twin, his twin brother, Donald passed away December 6, 2017. Lloyd was the last of his 12 siblings to pass away. Lloyd grew up in Wesleyville, Newfoundland.
Lloyd met the love of his life in 1982, Brenda Joyce Martin, at Little Limestone Camp where they were both cooks. They both resided and eventually moved in together in Thompson Manitoba. Lloyd and Brenda lived together as common-in-law husband and wife for 43 years.
Lloyd and Brenda used to fly to Winnipeg to go the Assiniboine Downs as Lloyd loved to gamble at the horse races.
Lloyd and Brenda eventually moved to The Pas, Manitoba. Lloyd and Brenda were cooks at the Kikiwak Inn before they retired. Lloyd met many of Auntie Brenda’s siblings, her children, Ross, Flora, Johnathon, grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Auntie Brenda would get mad at Lloyd as he loved drinking his 8 packs with his buddies at their home in Kin Kourt.
Lloyd was often seen walking around town as he enjoyed the outdoors. He was friendly and easily made friends. In their younger days Auntie Brenda would go for walks with him while living in Thompson, she practically had to run to keep up with him.
As Lloyd’s health started to weaken he eventually was hospitalized and was admitted at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, on Tuesday, January 6, 2025. Lloyd was later diagnosed with colon cancer.
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Lloyd quietly passed away at the age of 84 years old with Brenda by his side, at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba.
Lloyd is survived by his common law wife, Brenda Joyce Martin; his niece Faye Sturge (Newfoundland); step children Ross (Margaret) Martin, Flora (Lester) Bignell and Johnathon (Michelle) Martin; grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd’s family wishes were to have him cremated as his remains will be send to Wesleyville, Newfoundland, where he will be laid to rest with his twin brother Donald. If we forget to mention anyone it was not intentional.
