It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marcel Genaille (aka Dalo) on Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba, with family by his side after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 78 years.
Marcel was born on Saturday, February 21, 1948, in Cormorant, Manitoba to his parents Robert and Mary Anne Genaille (Umpie and Nanny).
Marcel attended school in Cormorant at a young age then went on to attend Frontier Collegiate in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba. He went on to pursue his Journeymen welding at Keewatin Community College (UCN) The Pas and pipefitting welding at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon.
Marcel grew up in Cormorant all his life and travelled to various places. Marcel met the love of his life, Maria and they had four beautiful children – Cheryl, Darryl, Jamie, and his baby Karen. They have 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Papa Marcel had a special bond with each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – he loved spending time with them as his family meant everything to him. He would attend their birthday parties, graduations, and family/sport functions – especially travelling to go see his great-grandson Gordon McLeod play in hockey tournaments. He was proud of his granddaughter Abigail McIvor when she continued her papa’s legacy to become a welder. He was proud of all his grandchildren. He instilled the importance of education to his children and his grandchildren to achieve and obtain their high school diploma. To continue to college or university to pursue a career in whatever career they chose.
Marcel started working at a young age, he worked on the railway. For several years, he worked as a welder at the mill until he retired and various other places after.
Marcel loved to be out on the land – trapping, fishing, berry picking, gardening, canning, and boating with family. He had a wicked sense of humour and loved joking around and telling million years ago stories. He adored the outdoors, especially cross-country skiing with his children when they were young. He and his wife Maria would enjoy going for walks down the tracks, bush trails and jogs and snowshoeing in the bush. Marcel was well known and loved by many in many of communities. He was very creative, and innovative when it came to welding projects for others.
Marcel is survived by his wife Maria of 53 years; daughters Cheryl and Karen (Jeff) and son Darryl (Marcy). He leaves behind 9 grandchildren – Tristan, Tessa, Kendall, Adam, Cheyenne, Alayna, Kayla, Abby, and Jeffery; four great-grandchildren – Gordon, Talia, Lyra, and Paisley.
His siblings – Dorothy (Ben), Charlie (Marietta), Edward (Delores), Roderick, Helen (Art), Alma (Albert), Albertine, Marlene, and Jacqueline; mother-in-law Mary Dick, Dick family, Umpie’s and Nanny’s clan.
Marcel was predeceased by his son Jamie; his parents Robert (Umpie) and Mary Anne Genaille (Nanny); sisters-in law – Lorraine Genaille and Margaret Genaille, Caroline Keeper; brothers-in-law Gordon Dick, Cyril Pierone, Jacques Nadon; nieces Dora Lavallee, Marilyn Lavallee; and nephew Bobby Lavallee; cousin Brent (Gee-gee) Constant.
