Marlene passed suddenly at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband Harry (the love of her life); sister Yvonne Cooper; granddaughter Terril-Anne; and great granddaughter Christina.
She was deeply loved by many not just for her kindness and thoughtfulness but for the way she genuinely listened, cared and remembered the little things that mattered most. Her presence was a light in the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her sister-in-law June Krynsen; children Linda (Michael) Nutting, Daniel (Diane), Brian (Bruno Boyle), Robert (Connie), Scott; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Marlene was born at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg Manitoba to Rubina and Wallace Rooney. At 17 she travelled to Gilliam Manitoba to work with her mother on the railroad, where she met Harry. They were married 61 years. They lived in Kelvington Sask., where they had their first four children, moved to Kamsack Sask., where Scott was born and then moved to The Pas where they would bring up their children and live their lives.
Marlene was an incredibly curious person. She volunteered at Brownies, Sunday school and the Legion. Wherever she went she made an impact on people’s lives. She tried many jobs: Carters, Corrections, Gondola Pizza but the job she loved the most was her VIP dog grooming where she met many residents of The Pas. Marlene also had a passion for the computer, genealogy and pictures. She spent years researching her Irish-Scottish roots and mastered the computer when home computers were just beginning to appear. She took computer courses and completed her Grade 12 certification at Keewatin College. She was very proud of that!
Marlene’s greatest happiness were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her little dog Tiny. Not a day went by where she didn’t make one or more of them smile. She was a superb seamstress and knitter and showered all with precious sweaters, blankets and handiwork. She was often said by many to be one of the kindest and gentlest people they had ever met. She will be fondly remembered for her great love of Christmas, birthdays and her beautiful smile.
