Murray Craig Anderson
August 28, 1949 – May 13, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Craig Anderson, beloved husband, father, friend, and former professional hockey player, who passed away at the age of 75.
Born in The Pas, Manitoba, on August 28, 1949, Murray grew up with a deep love for the game of hockey. His professional hockey career spanned from 1970 to 1977, including time in the AHL and WCHL, and culminated in his selection as the 44th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. He later played defense for the Washington Capitals during their inaugural NHL season, a proud and memorable chapter in his life. Though he achieved great success in his sport, Murray was always grounded — a man of humility who valued hard work and discipline above personal accolades.
Not just wanting to be a hockey ‘goon’, Murray pursued higher education by attending the University of Manitoba following his hockey career. He then returned to The Pas and worked at various businesses within the community while also obtaining his pilot’s license, achieving a lifelong dream. Through the years, he coached many local hockey teams, and his players fondly remember his hockey wisdom and mentorship. Later in life, Murray became a successful private business owner, running Parcel Plus, a job he adored as he loved all his customers and they loved him. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling, visiting many countries and making friends around the world.
He will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humour, a great wit always ready with a funny story or joke to tell. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, and all those who knew him. Murray leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Christine; his three children, Corey, Troy, and Amber (Darren); his four grandchildren Alexis, Matthew, Emily, and Anthony; and many other family members and lifelong friends.
A service will be held at the Legion Hall in The Pas, MB on Monday July 7th, 2025 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Murray’s memory to The Pas Minor Hockey Association:
