Myles Scott Obituary

Myles was born March 23, 1949 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan to Helen and Arthur (Milton) Scott. He was the baby of the family, and grew up on the farm in Love Saskatchewan, with his 3 older siblings and many pigs, chickens and cows. He learned early on how to work on vehicles with his friends because if they wanted to drive them they had to know how to keep the engine running!

As a young adult, he lived in many places like Saskatoon, Dawson Creek, and Cranberry Portage before settling in The Pas. In his early work life, he experimented with a variety of jobs, he was a farm hand, a cement plant worker, a cookie warehouse employee, a house painter, an employee with Manitoba Highways and much more. He became great friends with the Leptick family while working with Leptick’s Sawmill in Cranberry.

In the 70’s he moved to The Pas and worked at Manitoba Forestry Services, now known as CKP. In 1974 he went to work as a mechanic at Northgate Motors, where he met Charlotte, his soul mate, who was working at Northgate Autobody. They didn’t waste any time, quickly getting married September 28, 1974. In his spare time, he enjoyed racing snowmobiles and stock cars. He spent many, many hours repairing all the stuff that would get broken in preparation for the next race.

In 1975 Myles and Charlotte bought some farm land in Love and began farming with his dad while still working and living in The Pas. They had planned on moving to Love eventually but farmland was hard to come by in the area, so in 1978 they made the decision to stay in The Pas when land became available. They started their farming journey with 3 quarters and a house trailer. Over the years, the farm grew in size as did their family. They welcomed a daughter, Jolene in 1979 and their son Dustin in 1982, and a brand new house in 1985. When Myles finally quit work at Northgate Motors, he continued as a mechanic repairing vehicles for many years in the winter, operating Scott’s Repairs out of his shop.

The family and farm grew again with the addition of a son-in-law, Devin, a granddaughter Cailey in 1999 and grandson Clifford in 2002. Devin began working with Myles and Charlotte for many years, trading labour for equipment use on his own small farm. In 2022 Devin and Jolene joined their land with Myles and Charlotte’s to make the farm what it is today. Myles and Devin could both be stubborn, so there were a few tense moments, but overall they made a great team!

Myles truly enjoyed life! He enjoyed many good years watching Dustin’s hockey team where he made friends for life in the parents. Then as a Grandparent, he was able to follow Cailey and Cliff’s hockey teams, spending many years in the stands and evenings laughing in the hotel rooms with the parents. He spent countless winters snowmobiling, and even more summers camping at Gyles Park, enjoying many, many drinks around the campfires with family and friends while sharing stories and laughter. Myles and Charlotte were well known for cruising around the lake on their “Miami Vice” boat, exploring on their Wave Runners, or walking hand in hand in their matching jackets! He enjoyed many fishing and hunting trips where he always came home with stories to make us laugh. He loved when people stopped by the yard, so he could show off his 1973 Corvette and 1985 Trans Am, preferring to look at them rather than actually driving them!

Myles was an avid gardener. He loved to grow a huge garden and share the bounties with friends and family, especially his great corn!!! He played countless games of canasta with friends and family over the years. Myles is famous for his gift of gab, shooting birds off the deck, his love of snacks, drinking Rum and Root Beer, a cold MGD and the occasional “slippery nipple”! In November 2024, he came to have a new place to love, going out to the new cabin at Athapapuskow Lake in Cranberry Portage, telling anyone who would listen how relaxing lake life was!

It was hard to convince him to start travelling because he never wanted to leave the farm, but he finally went to Mexico for the first time in 2009 and he loved it! He travelled there for longer and longer vacations as the years went by. Myles passed away unexpectedly, on the last day of his month-long Mexican winter vacation on March 13, 2025.

Myles is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Charlotte, his children Brent (Nicole) Scott, Jolene (Devin) Salisbury, Dustin Scott, and his Grandchildren.

Myles is predeceased by his parents Milt and Helen Scott, his brother Harry “Buster” Scott, and his mother and father-in-law, Otto and Helen Herman. Myles will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who had the pleasure to know him.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
