Ovide Lavallee Obituary

Ovide Wilfrid Stanley Lavallee, at the age of 89 years passed away December 24th, 2023 in The Pas, Manitoba.

He was born on October 25th, 1934 at the Métis community of Pine Bluff, Manitoba.

Ovide was man of many skills and talents and never considered his disability to hinder his lifestyle that he loved of hunting that Moose, fishing, his dog racing, building bridges in Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Museum.  He worked in Grand Rapids at the dam and in Jenpeg, then moving into the construction field for Manitoba Housing and Renewal for many years.  When he retired, he continued doing house repairs for others working alongside his brother Gabe, nephew Delbert and son-in-law, Dale.   Ovide was always there to help out family and friends no matter what the task consisted of.

Over the years Dad raised a lot of sled dogs and raced them in many communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan with the support and assistance of his family.  When he was a younger he played the guitar with his brother Lloyd and continued having a guitar at home, when Jordan started with the fiddle he couldn’t be happier to play along with him.

It took some time, but he finally agreed to take some holiday trips with his wife, Ida, his nieces & nephews that he enjoyed.  He even went to Vernon, BC to visit his sisters a couple of times.  Ovide was a proud Red River Métis and attended many Annual General Assemblies, assisting whenever he was asked by the Manitoba Métis Federation.

Ovide is survived by his daughter, Sheila (Dale) Jackson, Grandson, Jordan (Sadie) Jackson and his Great Granddaughter Petra Rose Jackson.  His sisters, Claire (Ole) Michelson and Marie (George) Tetarenko, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

He is predeceased by his wife Ida (Munroe) Lavallee, his parents Alexander & Florence (Stove) Lavallee, his In-Laws, Thomas & Gertrude (Leaske) Munroe, his Brothers, Sister, Uncles, Aunts, nieces and nephews.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will take place in the summer.    A Celebration of Life will be organized via computer for family and friends at a later date.

You will forever be in our hearts and memories we will hold close and share.
