Perley Stevens Obituary

The family of Perley Stevens Sr., of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, is sad to announce his passing on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 79 years, with family and friends beside him at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba.

Perley (Sr.) Stevens, affectionately known as Mouse to his family and friends was born Friday, July 20, 1945 in Birch River, Manitoba.  Perley and Linda were united in marriage on March 7, 1969.  They were blessed with 7 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters and later by 13 grandchildren and 10 chapans.

Perley was raised in Sapotaweyak and Mafeking, Manitoba.  He attended school at the McKay Indian Residential School in Dauphin, Manitoba.  Perley then went on to work for the City of Winnipeg in his early years of their marriage.  He also worked in Norman Wells, NWT as a carpenter and later he attended the University Collage of the North to get his pipefitting certificate.  As the years moved on Perley also did various jobs within Opaskwayak, one of them working with Homecare clients.  Everyone who knew Perley knew he was a true Boston Bruin fan!

Perley is survived by his wife Linda; children Charlene (Daniel), Cheryl, Stanley (Garth), Daisy (Herbert) Jewels; grandchildren Timothy Barron, Danielle Stevens, Brandon Barron, Austin Stevens, Demetra Stevens, Chantelle Jewels, Chanelle Jewels, Carlos Jewels, Joshia Stevens, Kiaria Stevens, Dwayne Stevens, Daryion Stevens, Baby Girl Stevens (Moose Lake); chapans Tiauanna Barron, Brooke Barron, Genevieve, Adian, Adeliane, Mason, Carla McKenzie, Heaven Stevens, Elias Jewels, Penny Riviva-Serez; brother Albert (Sylvia) Stevens; sisters Sandra (nee Stevens) Whiteman and Edna Stevens.  He also leaves to mourn the Whitney family from Alberta and many extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends too numerous to mention.  He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Perley was predeceased by his parents Edward Ross Stevens and Nancy Ethel Leask; children Albert, Pearly Jr., Michael Stevens; sisters Daisy, Gladys, Lucy, Elizabeth; brothers Ernie, Hughie, Andrew; grandson Larry Constant; chapan Zaylyn Lavallee-Constant.

If we forgot anyone, it was not intentional.

Many thanks to the Cancercare Manitoba, medical and nursing staff at Grace Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital.
