Reita Smith (nee Klyne) was born in Swan River, Manitoba on Monday, January 14, 1935 and passed away with her daughter Laurel by her side on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, at the age of 88 years. Reita resided at St. Paul’s for the last 7 years.
Reita was united in marriage to Gordon Smith June 6, 1959 in Flin Flon where they lived for many years. Reita was devoted homemaker all her life and played a remarkable role in raising her two youngest siblings.
In 1963, Reita and Gordon started their own family with the birth of their daughter Laurel and in 1966 their son Russell arrived.
When Reita’s children were older and more independent, she took the opportunity to return to school herself and was employed with Creighton Homecare for twenty years. Throughout this time she also mastered the skills of driving which allowed her more independence in her working life.
Reita was greatly appreciated and loved by her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking when hosting family gatherings.
Reita was an avid reader and known for her creativity. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, cake decorating and gardening. Her beautiful flowers were her pride and joy and were admired by many passers-by. She always enjoyed the flowers she received on special occasions while living at St. Paul’s.
Reita was predeceased by her husband Gordon; parents Dorothy and Alex Klyne; and brother Rowland.
Left to mourn her passing are her children Laurel and Russell (Kim); 4 grandchildren Allisha, Jordan, Colton and Tanner; 2 sisters, 4 brothers and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date in Mafeking, Manitoba.
