Richard Cudmore Obituary

Our dad, Richard Neil Cudmore, also known as DC, Dick or Richie. Our Dad was born to Rose Cudmore and Wilf Sr. Cudmore, Saturday, July 27th, 1963, in The Pas, Manitoba.

He grew up in The Pas and lived most of his kid years out at Clearwater Lake with his parents and siblings. He loved and enjoyed water skiing and sea-doing around the lake. While growing up, Richie was also an excellent hockey player as well. He took home an assortment of trophies and there is still talk about his times playing hockey to this day.

His passion was music, anything to do with music, to writing song lyrics, singing, playing the drums piano, playing guitar, playing shows with his numerous bands over the years. (Salem, Quota, Your Mom’s New Boyfriend, and his current one Low Budget Rockstar. He enjoyed numerous bands, like AC/DC, Guns N Roses, KISS. When it came to music he enjoyed almost all aspects of it. D.C. wrote and co-wrote many songs in most of the bands he was in, and the albums they created. He knew how to make a beat and with his hands he’d often times start drumming on everyday objects, when he was cooking a meal for the family or rocking out in the car.

He also enjoyed many and I mean many concerts, from almost all genres. From rock bands like AC/DC, Guns and Roses, and Motley Crüe, to rappers like Asap Rocky or pop stars like Rihanna. Richie never failed to miss a show and to not find joy in the world even through tough times.

DC worked at Tolko for 30 + years and during that time he worked his way up to be a supervisor. He later worked a long side Vern Gale as a machine tender control operator. Although his career and how he provided for his family was mainly at the mill, his true passion always was music. He had actually wrote the song ‘Hot Summer Nights’ from the quota album during one of his night shifts at the mill while his partner in crime Richard (Dick) Morten wrote the melody at his place like the two were instinctively writing the same song.

Although dad had his health issues he never let it stop him from doing music. He never sat around and dwelled on it. He always made something out of nothing. His dream to always come true was to top all the charts across the world, or at least some. In our eyes he was always on top of the charts. Dad loved all of his children, his band mates.

Our dad passed away peacefully at his residence with family by his side, Tuesday, July 5, 2022.  D.C. is survived by Odette McGillivary; his mother Rose Cudmore; his sons Chris Cudmore, Daniel Cudmore and his wife Chelsea Cudmore and their kids Emma and Ethan; and his daughter Jenny Cudmore and her husband Mathew Fitzpatrick and their son Mikey; as well as other family, such as siblings and cousins.

In keeping with family wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
