Rino was born on Monday, April 9, 1945, to Honoré Morin and Mrs. Anna Lizotte in Miramichi, New Brunswick. He passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Virden, Manitoba.
During his teenage years, Rino relocated to Edmundston, New Brunswick, where he established his life. Eventually, he became restless and moved to Manitoba, pursuing new opportunities. Throughout his life, Rino was a diligent individual, dedicating himself to his work at INCO and serving as a caretaker for the building where he resided with his wife, the late Judy Elder, on Cree Road in Thompson, Manitoba. He played an active role in raising Judy's children from a previous marriage and their grandchildren, often preparing meals and sharing stories of his youth.
Rino enjoyed participating in Saturday morning NCI FM bingo with Judy, typically with a cigarette in one hand and a coffee in the other. He was also fond of watching sports with his grandkids, particularly wrestling, and was a fan of shows like Wheel of Fortune and Planko. On Sundays, he would listen to Tribal Trails, a program featuring gospel music in the Cree language. Later in life, Rino moved to The Pas and secured employment at the Kikiwak Inn on OCN, where he took pride in his work and his black leather jacket, a token from Kikiwak. Eventually, Rino's advancing age compelled him to cease working. This did not deter him from being an exceptional grandfather, adoring all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Often, he would walk to Fat Boys and enjoy fish and chips or a cheeseburger accompanied by french fries and gravy. A side of Pepsi was always a requirement with every meal. Here's a funny story about Pepsi: when Rino visited his daughter Virginia and her late husband Peewee in Cranberry, Peewee, known for his playful nature, filled an empty Pepsi bottle with old black coffee and put it in the refrigerator. When Rino retrieved the Pepsi and took a big gulp, he started swearing and speaking in French; Peewee's laughter could be heard from outside, and from then on, Rino made sure to smell the Pepsi before drinking it.
Rino lived a very eventful life with too many stories to tell. His caring and supportive nature will be fondly remembered, Rino's affection for his grandchildren will also be recalled; Rino's absence will be felt deeply and his memories will forever stay with his family.
Rino Morin is survived by his children Gino Morin, Marco Morin, Vincent (Muriel) Brightnose, Dennis (Helen) Brightnose, Virginia (Kelly) Gamblin, Doris (Jeremy) Cook, Allan (Coralee) Elder, Clifford Elder; grandchildren Darian, Vance, Chase, Jada, Jimmy, Wade, Morgan (Marjan) Courtney, April (Cory), Aaron, Nathan (Natalie), Marcus, Jordan, Jessica (Richard), Dominick, Jared, Genelle, Clifford Jr. (Yasha), Logan, Landon, Violet; great-grandchildren Juliette, Caige, Stella, Axel, Jayanna, Charlena, Charlie Jr., Hunter, Trapper, Skyler, Danita, Baby Cory, Jordan, Malakai, Jayr and his fighting partner Zae; sisters-in-law Nancy Brightnose, Elizabeth Connell and Maryjane Halcrow.
