Early on the morning of Monday, January 3, 2022, with his loving wife of 56 years by his side, Ron passed away at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg three years after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Ron was born on Friday, November 22, 1946 at the Dauphin General Hospital. His first home was west of Riding Mountain National Park in the Crawford Park District of Manitoba, until he and his family relocated to Lynn Lake in 1957.
In 1963, at the age of 16, Ron began his railroad career with Canadian National Railway in Lynn Lake. He then moved to the Bay Line just south of Churchill at Tidal where he continued his railroad career and met his future wife Elizabeth. As Ron’s career progressed it would see him and his family move to and call home many places across northern Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and western Canada. Throughout Ron’s career he enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people, many of whom he considered dear friends. In 1997 Ron returned to the Bay Line where he eventually retired in The Pas.
Ron was very proud, and spoke often, of the accomplishments of his grandchildren Matthew, Stephanie, Tyler, James, Stephanie, Mitchell, Ivy, Vienna, and Ayden and his many nieces and nephews. Ron was a loving and supportive father of his three children Sharon (Richard), James, and Lyle.
Ron was predeceased by his mother Ivy; his father Earl; his mother-in-law Mary; his father-in-law John; his brother Les; his sister-in-law Sharlene; his brother-in-law Moses; his sister-in-law Lillian; and his nephew Charles.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, his children, his grandchildren; his brothers Dan, Stan, and Cal (Helen); his sister Mildred (Roy); his brothers-in-law David, George (Maria), Allan (Barb); and his sister-in-law Maureen and their families.
In keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Precious Pets Spay and Neuter Fund, c/o Bonnie Meadows, Box 539, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K6, would be appreciated by Ron’s family.
