Samuel Ettawakapow Obituary

             Sam was born on Thursday, August 5, 1943 to the parents of Matthew Ettawakapow and Flora Jane Umpherville.

             Sam was a Residential School Survivor.

             Sam met the love of his life Florence (nee Lambert) and were united in marriage on December 26, 1963 in Moose Lake, MB, together they raised 11 children.

             Sam lived in Moose Lake all his life and later on relocated to Traders Lake in 1989 where he resided until his passing.

Sam was a Councillor for 28 years for Mosakahiken Cree Nation. Sam had a passion for pool and enjoyed playing cards, playing slots at the VLTs, camping, travelling, especially going for "a ride".

Sam passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2026 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, MB at the age of 82 years with his daughter Isabelle by his side. He will leave a great legacy and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Sam was "The Last of the 13 Children" 

Sam is survived by his daughter Isabelle Ettawakpow; sons Leonard Ettawakapow, Sam JR Ettawakapow; adoptive children Alfred “Cheech” (Dora) Ettawakapow, Brian (Kristen) Bignell, Darlene McKay, Denise (Donald) Bignell; brothers-in-law Joe Lambert Sr., Roderick (Lamis) Bignell; sisters- in-law Susan Ettawakapow, Emma Campbell; daughters-in-law Collen Lambert, Eva Ettawakapow; sons-in-law Jerry Young, John Metro Patchinose; Godchildren Shirley Patchinose, Garfield McNabb, Valawrence Queskekapow; nieces, nephews, grandchildren, chapans and many friends, too numerous to mention. If we forgot anyone it was not intentional.

Sam was predeceased by his parents Matthew Ettawakapow and Flora Jane Umpherville; stepdad Solomon Tobacco; In-laws Robert (Bella) Lambert; brothers John Charles (Violet) Monias, James Ettawakapow Sr., Alfred Tobacco Sr., Paul Tobacco, Irving Tobacco, Raymond (Flora Jean) Tobacco, Bernard Tobacco; sisters Elizabeth (Bart) Martin, Catherine (Leonard) Lathlin, Mary Ann Bignell, Virginia (Roddy) Grey, Samaria (David) Wilson; sons Vincent Lambert Sr., John Edward Ettawakapow, John George Ettawakapow, Baby Samuel Ettawakapow, Clarence Ettawakapow, Norman Ettawakapow, Bernie Ettawakapow; daughter Sandra Young; adoptive daughter Florence Pauline Patchinose; granddaughter Summer Lily Nasekapow; grandsons Vincent Lambert Jr., Archie Nasekapow; chapan Miley Lambert; son-in-law JR Nasekapow.
