Thelma Harriet Taylor, long term resident of Flin Flon, passed away June 13, 2023, at the age of 103. She was born into a farming family on August 14, 1919, in Ninga, Manitoba. Thelma was the second youngest in a lively family with 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
In 1947 she married the love of her life, Bently Taylor. They were happily married for 41 years. True to women of her time, Thelma was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She enjoyed baking, gardening, curling, fishing, sewing and ‘Happy Hour’. For many years Thelma was an active volunteer at the Legion, contributing to fundraisers and helping out where needed.
Until her 96th birthday, Thelma spent her summers at the family cabin in Denare Beach. Birthdays at the cabin were a yearly event, celebrated with neighbours and friends, including a special celebration at the New Horizons when she turned 100. Thelma was well cared for in the last years of her life spent at the Flin Flon Manor.
A special thank you goes out to the nurses, caregivers and staff at the Manor for all they did for her. Thelma will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her son Craig. True to her wishes, there will be no service for Thelma but rather a hearty invitation to ‘raise a cold one’ in her memory in lieu of cards, flowers or food.
“Miss me, but let me go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little — but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.”
