Wilma Cook Obituary

Wilma Cook was born Monday, May 9, 1960 to the proud parents of Leslie “Melasche” Cook and Helen “kitchenkan” Cook.  Wilma suddenly passed away March 21, 2025 at St Anthony’s General Hospital at the age of 64 years old.

Wilma was blessed with two beautiful children, Lesley Marie Cook and Jamie Earl Cook whom she loved dearly.  She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Cassie Leigh Cook, Branden, Michael, Avaya, Beba, Brylee Camryn Legace, Saydee-Ann Demery, Nyah Jae-lynn Cook, Rheanna Marie Cook.

Wilma enjoyed the game of slo-pitch with her pals, The MJ Selects.  She also enjoyed carpentry work where she studied at K.C.C.  She was also a hockey fan of the Edmonton Oilers club.  She took Jamie to his first NHL game back in 1986, while she lived in Winnipeg for a few years.  Jamie was a Jet’s fans but Wilma’s team won the Oilers.

Wilma loved listening to all sorts of music from Country classic to Rock n Roll.  She was also a big fan of PINK FLOYD.  Wilma also enjoyed the company of her neighbors on Riverside.  She always bought treats for all the kids that came around and played games and had wiener roasts.  Desmond was always the first one there.  She was everyone’s aunty and soon became everyone’s Kookum once those children grew up on Riverside.  She loved it when family and friends would come over and watch the fireworks at her place on Canada Day.  Wilma loved her BINGO nights with blue and their friends that would come and play at her house.

Val Cook her neighbor sat with her while she was sick.  She took very good care of our sister until the end.  Our family would like to thank Val for her special friendship she had with our mom, sister, aunt, grandma.

While our hearts are heavy with the loss of beloved Wilma, Mother, sister, Aunty, grandma, cousin and friend.  She leaves us all with her famous words of “ I Love you with my heart, soul and body!!!”

Wilma is survived by her son Jamie (Lisa)Cook, her partner John “Blueman” Sinclair; her sisters Sarah Jane, Sandra, Mary (Isaac), Linda Jean (Elaine), Madeline, Irene and brothers: Freddy and Daniel; brother in law, Ken “Kwivy” Lathlin.

A letter from Heaven

When tomorrow starts without me

And I’m not here to see

If the sun should rise and find

your eyes, filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today.

While thinking of the many things,

We didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me, as much as I love you,

And each time you think of me, I know you’ll miss

me too.

When tomorrow, starts without me,

Don’t think we’re far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I’m right there in your heart.
